We are transitioning a multichannel i210 design to the i226. The i210 design uses an oscillator and a fan-out buffer to avoid having multiple crystals on the board. The phrasing in the Design Guidelines for i226 doesn't encourage this approach.
Any reason an oscillator/fan-out buffer approach will not work if we leave the XTAL_OUT pin unconnected, connect to the XTAL_IN pin and limit the voltage to stay within the specification for 'Vid'?
Best regards,
Terje
