i210-IT not showing up on the PCIe bus

Hello

We are currently designing an embedded product.

The CPU used in the product is an Intel Atom Alder Lake based on a COMe module. The COMe module han an on module i210-IT. We have successfully connected over ethernet to this PHY. We need two ethernet ports in the design and so we have chosen to use the i210-IT on the carrier board as well, because we know that the used SW (VxWorks) is working with this PHY.

However, we are not able to connect to the discrete PHY on our carrier board. In fact, it does not even show up on the PCIe bus. The on-module i210 does. We have verified the electrical connections and measured activity on the PCIe pins of the i210 on the carrier board. We have verified an amplitude of 1.7V on the XTAL1 pin.

The attached schematic shows our implementation.

We have also added a 4k99 resistor to ground on the MDI_RSET pin and a 1K pullup resistor to 3V3 on LAN_PWR_GOOD, as these were not added originally by mistake. We have also tried to add a pulldown resistor on pin 12 to disable secure boot. None of these modifications have enabled us to come any closer to a solution, the PHY still does not show up on the PCIe bus. The behavior is the same across multiple boards we have had produced, so a bad assembly job is not likely to be the case.

FYI, I do have a Premium Intel Account and I have downloaded EEUPDATE and LANCONF tools together with the production images. But without access to the PHY over PCIe we are unable to use any of these tools.

Can you please give us an idea on how to proceed in order to bring up the i210?

/Lars
