Replacing E640T with E680T

Hi all,

Few years back we have made Single Board Computer Design with E640T and IO HUB EG20T and along with necessary ROHM PMICs.

This was operating at a maximum frequency of 1GHz and supporting 1/2GB DDR2 RAM.

Now, I would like to upgrade this to 1.6GHz operating speed by replacing E680T. In this regard I have following queries.

1. Are these two processors E640T and E680T are foot print compatible?

2. Can I use the same PCB and assemble E680T? are do I need to do any modifications to my design?

3. Can I use the same ROHM ICs: BD9591AMWV, BD9594AMWV and BU7335MWV? or any architectural change is required to use E680T?

4. These two processors were released in the year 2010, till what year these processors will be in production?

Pl help me to find these answers.

Thanks & Regards

Hello SaiViswanadh,

Thank you for contacting the Intel Embedded Community.

The only differences between the Intel(R) Atom(TM) Processor E640T and E680T are the Operating Frequency, Thermal Dissipation Power (TDP), and Graphics Base Frequency. This information can be found in Table 2, on page 30 of the http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/datasheets/atom-e6xx-series-datasheet.pdf Intel(R) Atom(TM) Processor E6xx Series Datasheet document # 324208, and at http://ark.intel.com/compare/52498,52494 ARK | Compare Intel® Products website.

It is important to let you know that these devices have same documentation as you may notice at the cited Datasheet and also at http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/intelligent-systems/queens-bay/embedded-intel-atom-e6xx-series-with-intel-platform-controller-hub-eg20t.html Embedded Intel® Atom™ Processor E6xx Series with Intel® PCH EG20T website. Due to this fact, they are pin compatible and you should keep in mind the mentioned frequencies differences to implement a migration process.

The Intel products lifetime depend of their demand in the market, generally they are planned to be available for seven years. However In order to verify availability and lifetime information, we suggest you to contact an Intel Representative. In case that you need to contact one, they are staffed in the Intel Embedded Authorized Distributors. They are listed at the http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/distributors/overview.html Intel® Authorized Distributors of Embedded Products website. Feel free to contact the one that better fit to your needs.

We hope that this information may help you.

Best Regards,

Hello Carlos_A.,

In my previous design with E640T I was using CT80618005841AB with SLJ37 (Spec Code).

I would like to try with E680T on same design. While ordering part its observed that, E680T is having ordering info CT80618007035AB with SLJ39 as spec code. I am unable to find the much information about these spec codes? are these two are same? can I go with SLJ39?

Thanks & Regards

Hello SaiViswanadh,

Thanks for your update.

The mentioned Spec Numbers are related to the Production Release Qualification (PRQ), B1 Stepping, and Tray shipping media package versions of the cited part numbers. Due to this fact, there are unrelated to functionality differences.

You can confirm this information in section Component Marking Information, on page 14 of the http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/specification-updates/atom-e6xx-spec-update.pdf Intel® Atom™ Processor E6xx Series Specification Update document # 324209; also in the http://ark.intel.com/products/52494/Intel-Atom-Processor-E640T-512K-Cache-1_00-GHz# @ordering Intel® Atom™ Processor E640T (512K Cache, 1.00 GHz) Ordering and Spec Information and http://ark.intel.com/products/52498/Intel-Atom-Processor-E680T-512K-Cache-1_60-GHz?q=E680T# @ordering Intel® Atom™ Processor E680T (512K Cache, 1.60 GHz) Ordering and Spec Information websites.

Please let us know if this information is useful to you.
