Tested in:

Ubuntu 22.04 with linux kernel 5.15:

default i40e and ixgbe

X710-TL has no 2.5G/5G supported link modes and advertised link modes

X550-T2 has 2.5G/5G supported link modes but no advertised link modes

Windows Server 2022:

with fresh windows installed driver:

X710-TL never negotiate to 2.5G/5G

X550-T2 cloud negotiate to 2.5G/5G (strange behavior)

with latest intel driver 27.6:

X710-TL never negotiate to 2.5G/5G

X550-T2 never negotiate to 2.5G/5G (normal behavior)

Hello Curio,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

For us to further check the issue, please provide the following details.

  1. Are you designing a board/system with embedded Intel network card?
  2. Or are you using a PCIe network card for this test.
  3. Can you share the link of the drivers used?
  4. Can you tell us more details why you are doing this test?

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Best regards,

Hello Mike, thanks a lot for your reply.

It`s a OEM PCIe network card on DELL server (X710-T4L).

I have tested linux i40e driver buildin kernel 5.15.0-46 (Ubuntu 22.04), and Windows driver ver. 27.6 from Intel® Ethernet Adapter Complete Driver Pack

We need 2.5GbE for some hosts these days, but X710-T4L has no 2.5G/5G supported link modes and advertised link modes, and never negotiate to 2.5G, that`s strange.

Best Regards

Hello Curio,

Thank you for the quick reply. Let me just share this link saying that we don't have validation for Ubuntu 22.04 yet. However this is for Intel Retail cards and not for OEM units:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000025890/ethernet-products.html

Since you are using an OEM unit and you already tried our generic driver, it is best to contact Dell at this point. They may have custom driver, software and firmware to enable the feature of your card. They are they support to to discuss this issue. We hope you understand.

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Hello Mike, thanks a lot for your reply.

I will contact Dell For solutions of X710-T4L。

But  the X550-T2 is a Intel Retail one, I tested in:

Windows Server 2022:

with fresh windows installed driver:

X550-T2 cloud negotiate to 2.5G/5G (strange behavior)

with latest intel driver 27.6 from https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/15084/intel-ethernet-adapter-complete-driver-pack.html:

X550-T2 never negotiate to 2.5G/5G (normal behavior)

Ubuntu 20.04:

default i40e and ixgbe

X550-T2 has 2.5G/5G supported link modes but no advertised link modes, and never negotiate to 2.5G/5G (strange behavior)

Any solutions?

Hello Curio,

Thank you for the clarifications. Let me gather more details about the X550-T2 for us to further assist you.

  1. Can you send photos of X550-T2 on both sides focusing on the markings for us to check the unit?
  2. Kindly provide some screenshot of the issue.
  3. What are the troubleshooting steps that you tried so far?
  4. Please help generate the SSU logs of the system. Kindly download the utility below:

Hello Mike, please forgive me for my late response.

Because I`m waiting for server`s free time then shut it down and plug X550-T2 to another test PC, so further test may need few days.

Once it's done, I'll post informations here.

Thanks a lot and best regards……
