82579V appears as 82579LM

Hello,

my system consists of a ASUS board P8Z68-V PRO with the network controller Intel 82579V.

I have the problem that the network controller is not recognized correctly every time Windows is started. It appears to have started after the upgrade to WINDOWS 10 1909.

It is exactly as described in this post: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000028256/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html

After clicking on "scan for hardware changes" in the device manager, the device is recognized as an Intel 82579V and works again until the next boot of Windows. And I need to repeat to procedure to again get the network adapter to connect.

Thanks for your help.

This is an 8 year old board. Things like this are going to happen as aging takes its toll. If replacing the board is not in the cards, your only choices are going to be to add a PCIe or USB Ethernet adapter. If you do this, best to go into BIOS Setup and disable this PHY so it isn't enumerated at all.

I know it's old but the computer is running just fine other than this issue. Apparently, it is a known problem and Intel has published a fix but the link to it is broken. NVM Update Utility for Intel® 82579V Gigabit Ethernet PHY Network Connection.

Yea, Intel cleared all of the content for discontinued products off their website. Perhaps someone can get this via the wayback machine (Al, are you listening?).
