Hello support

After updating NVM ( to V 5.80 ) on our X722-DA4, our motherboard BIOS ( Super Micro X11SPW-TF ) now complains about CLP needs update too:

The CLP Boot ROM for the device detected a newer version of the NVM image than expected. Please install the most recent version of the CLP boot ROMs.

PXE 2.1 Build 092 ( WfW 2.0 ).

Initializing Intel(C) Boot Agent 40G V 1.1.30

Hello olebenny,

Thank you for posting in Intel Customer Support.

We are sorry to hear about this problem you encountered with your X722-DA4. For us to further check into this, we hope you don't mind if you could confirm the following details:

  1. Where did you get the NVM version 5.80 for the adapter? Can you provide a link on where you found it?
  2. Kindly provide a front and rear photo of the adapter for validation.

Let us know if you have questions or need clarifications. If we do not receive a response from you, we will reach out after 3 business days.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Best regards,

Hello olebenny,

We are still checking on your concern and we just want to confirm if we understood the problem correctly. The way we understood is 5.80(5.50) is required in order to properly run the 'ethtool -m' and you were able to update the FW successfully. However after the FW update, you then encountered the error in BIOS so you were trying to update it to higher version 8.60 but it was detected as "No update available".

Hi Achilles

Yes, but my main concern is this message from BIOS startup, when it is accessing the X722-DA4, after updating NVM ( to V 5.80 ) on our X722-DA4, our motherboard BIOS ( Super Micro X11SPW-TF ) now complains about CLP needs update too:

The CLP Boot ROM for the device detected a newer version of the NVM image than expected. Please install the most recent version of the CLP boot ROMs.

PXE 2.1 Build 092 ( WfW 2.0 ).

Initializing Intel(C) Boot Agent 40G V 1.1.30

So my question initially was, where do I get an updated CLP boot Rom ??????

Best regards

Ole

Hello olebenny,

What we would recommend is to please try updating the option ROM separately using BootUtil and advise us if this will resolve the CLP Boot ROM error.

Hi Zigfried

1.

I succeeded to download 'preboot' package.

Allthough it seems, that my X722-DA4 is only supported up until v 26.6.

Any newer versions, does not include it in :

This download is valid for the product(s) listed below

2.

Running 'bootutil64e -IV shows following:

sudo ./Linux_x64/bootutil64e -IV
[sudo] password for ole:

Hello olebenny,

As per checking the BootUtil 27.2 should support X722-DA4 but requires 8.6 NVM version so we would recommend to try updating it again from 8.50 to 8.60. Once updated to NVM 8.6, please check if CLP boot error still persist. If yes, try Bootutil again.

Please refer on our release Notes_27.2.pdf (intel.com) on page 4.

Hi Zigfreid

Updating with bootutil 27.2 made error/warning go away even with NVM V 8.50.
