My service provider showed me speedtest.net on one of their laptops connected by cat5e cable to my modem with 312 Mbps, whereas my machine shows 140 Mbps.

Hello Gort, Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities. Please visit this link and scroll down to Networking Specifications; Data Rate Per Port. The maximum speed that this Ethernet support is 1GbE. The download speed will depend on your Internet Service Provider. https://ark.intel.com/products/35646/Intel-82567LM-Gigabit-Ethernet-Phy Please be informed that this product has been discontinued. You may want to check the status through the link below: https://ark.intel.com/products/35646/Intel-82567LM-Gigabit-Ethernet-Phy Let us know if you have any other questions. Thx Crisselle for responding, your answer unfortunately does not help here. Excuse my ignorance here what is GbE? My provider has proven to me that my hardwire line will provide 300 Mbps to my pc. So my question remains can my NIC and motherboard support that speed? Is it one or the other, that is the bottleneck (NIC or motherboard or operating system or all 3)?

Hello Gort, Thank you for the reply. The Ethernet controller is capable of 1000mbps connection speed to supported link partner, please double check the established connection speed in the settings of your system: Network and Internet Settings; View your Network Properties and scroll down to Link speed (Receive/Transmit). May we also know what Operating System do you use? Let us know if you have any other questions. Best regards, Crisselle C Intel Customer Support Under Contract to Intel Corporation

Hi Crisselle, As per my original post my OS is XP Pro running on an Intel DX58SO motherboard quadcore. My 1394 connection is running at 400 Mbps and my Local Area Connection is quoted at 1Gbps in settings. However my speedtest on Fast and Ookla shows 120 - 135Mbps. Very strange since the Shaw tech here at my home showed me 300 Mbps on their own laptop hardwire connected to my modem. Regards,

Hello Gort, Thank you for the response. We just want to clarify your response here "Local Area Connection is quoted at 1Gbps in settings." Is this from your 82567LM-2G Ethernet? Hello Gort, Thank you for the reply. Based from the information you've provided, the 82567LM-2G is connected at 1000Mbps (1Gbps) speed to your modem. The speedtest conducted on Fast or Ookla had to pass through your service provider and the test outcome is dependent on various factors. Is the 300Mbps download speed a guaranteed rate provided by your service provider? Is it possible to share with us the operating system and laptop model used by the Shaw tech that produces 300Mbps speed test? Let us know if you have any other questions. Hi Crisselle, Please escalate this issue to your systems engineers that have good knowledge on older boards like the Intel 82567LM-2G and DX58SO. I have established that the only issue now boils down to my systems hardware or operating system (XP pro sp3). Thank you, Olev (Gort)

Hello Olev, Thank you for the reply. We will try helping to check for you in case there is any information to share. The established connection depends on various factors, as a reference, you might want to visit this link for What factors may impact my Speedtest® result? https://www.speedtest.net/about/knowledge/faq#factors (Please note this is third party website provided here for your reference, we have no control over the content therein). As an additional information, DX58SO board and 82867 were already discontinued. Please visit below link for the discontinued announcement: DX580SO discontinued on June 29, 2013 https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000016241/boards-and-kits/desktop-boards.html 82567 discontinued on Q1 2017 https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/35646/intel-82567lm-gigabit-ethernet-phy.html To better check on this, may we know if you have tried the final release Windows XP driver for your Ethernet controller at our website: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/18717/Network-Adapter-Drivers-for-Windows-XP-Final-Release?product=32261 Can you provide also the laptop model used by your ISP to test the speed? And when they run the speed test, what are the activities being done at that time or any application they were running? Please let me know if you have other questions. Sorry to say Crisselle but being discontinued should not mean an automatic dismissal of the issue. Are you saying that all the engineers that developed these 2 boards are now retired? There must be someone that can help, please escalate this to someone that can be of assistance this is at a dead end with you. I really find canned responses offensive. Regards, Olev

Hello Olev, Thank you for the response. We apologize for letting you feel it is a canned response, we're trying to explain the current situation of your support query. As much as we want to help you, we need additional information such as the system brand and operating system used by your technician for speed testing. These information can help us further look into your issue. I've spotted an existing post in Microsoft Forum related to speed test problem in WinXP: (Please be informed Intel has no control over the content posted in the third party site shared in this post) https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-xp-sp3-having-problems-with-speedtestnet/080898c0-0718-4728-b274-f24d3cef3ada Hoping for your kind understanding. Ok so can someone shed some light on the OS as potential culprit? I was told the OS on their laptop was Win 10. Can this be the issue? Thx, Olev

I'm waiting on Shaw for details on laptop used. Today they came in and tested using an HP laptop with an i5 Board running Win 10 pro and were able to get 240 Mbps and my machine is still sitting around 130 Mbps. Thx, Olev

Hello Olev, Thank you for waiting on our update. Since you have confirmed that Windows 10 yielded good test results. There might be an issue with WinXP and speed test as stated by other users in Microsoft website, you can try the suggestions provided by MS support and check if it improves your test result. (The mentioned URL will take you to a non-Intel Web site. Intel does not control and is not responsible for information outside of the Intel Web site.) https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-xp-sp3-having-problems-with-speedtestnet/080898c0-0718-4728-b274-f24d3cef3ada You can also look into other means of testing like downloading files from the net. Observe the speed and check if the speed issue is only isolated with speedtest.net. You may also consider trying out the final release of WinXP driver found in our site https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/18717/Network-Adapter-Drivers-for-Windows-XP-Final-Release?product=32261. If you have other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Best regards, Crisselle C Intel Customer Support Under Contract to Intel Corporation
