Connecting an Intel Ethernet XL710-QDA2 to an Intel® Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X520-SR2

Hi

I need to connect my server having a http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ethernet-products/converged-network-adapters/ethernet-xl710.html XL710 CNA QDA2 to another server with a X520-SR2 Network adapter(E10G42BFSR ). I was curious whether I can go with the Intel Ethernet QSFP+ breakout cable (X4DACBL1, X4DACBL3 or X4DACBL5) from Intel for this purpose. If not what other option do I have ?? (40GbE to 10GbE)

I was planning to procure the breakout cable, then I noticed that the specific X520 model we are using is X520-SR2 and as per the specs, the cabling details are i.e.

Cable Medium Fiber Cabling Type MMF up to 300m

I am pretty naive on this topic, so wanted to confirm my purchase option. Would this copper cable be compatible with the specific model X520-SR2 ?

Would be of great help if one could confirm it.

Hi Anzal,

Thank you for writing back.

The Intel X520-SR2 Network Card comes with two SR (fiber) SFP+ modules. If you want to connect using copper cable, you may remove the SR SFP+ module then use a DA cable to connect.

Alternatively, if you want to connect two DA cables, you may purchase Intel X520-DA2 model, since you do not need the SR SFP+ modules.

For Intel XL710 Series Adapter, you will need the Intel® QSFP+ Configuration Utility to configure the port as 1 port supporting 40Gbps or split it into 4 ports supporting 10Gbps each.

To change the configuration of an adapter, use the /set= option with one of the following

configurations:• 1x40 to enable a single QSFP+ port in 40 Gb/s mode.• 2x40 to enable dual QSFP+ ports in 40 Gb/s mode.• 4x10 for using a single QSFP+ port and breakout cable (connection to four 10 Gb/s SFP+ link partners).• 2x2x10 for using dual QSFP+ ports with breakout cables (connection to two 10 Gb/s SFP+ link partners for each QSFP+ port).
