Does the Davis Flat card SFP+ connector connect to Chassis GND on the board?

Any collaterals can refer it?

Hi gar\yeohchux,

Good day. The network card does not need to connect to Chassis GND. You may contact chassis manufacturer for more information on chassis grounding.

Hope this is helpful.

Sincerely,

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

Actually customer planning to connect the connector to Chassis GND. They would like to know whether there would be a problem with that? If not any collaterals show that is no an issue?

Regards,

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

The chassis ground is required on some server chassis to make the current return easier and more efficient. Connecting it will not affect the network card or any other components in your server.

We suggest to further consult the chassis installation guide or manufacturer for more information.

I hope this is helpful.

Sincerely,

Sandy

Hi Patrick,

Normally, Chassis GND is connected to the chassis and not the SFP+ connector.

Since the SFP+ connector is used to connect SFP+ Modules.

However, to confirm the type of GND customer is using, please provide model and photo of chassis and GND connector and how will it be connected to SFP+ connector.

We look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Sandy

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for the photo. The card installation is okay. However, only the SFP+ modules can be connected to the SFP+ connectors (ports).

Sincerely,

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

Customer said sentences seem to be contradicting. Could you help clarify just based on the "Is it all right to have the SFP+ connector connected to chassis ground?"

Regards,

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

The SFP+ connector is to connect to SFP+ cable or port and not to a chassis ground. Hope this help clarify.

Hi Sandy,

There might be some misunderstanding.

Customer said Yes, the connector is used for connecting to the cables. But they are planning to have the SFP+ connector electrically connected to a chassis ground. Is this all right?

Regards,

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

We can only connect the SFP+ modules and cables to the network card and nothing else.

Sincerely,

Sandy
