Hello,
we have troubles with DELL PowerEdge R750 with Intel X710 cards. Windows Server 2022 - 2 Intel PCIe X710 NICs Switched Embedded Teaming enabled. We face the trouble that performance on big file transfer over smb and iperf Tool is about 100-120 MBit/s. When we disable the primary team member performance goes up to 1 Gbit/s. I´ve testet an older Intel X550 NIC in the same server and there is no performance problem in combination with NIC teaming. We had a support ticket on Dell and have checked the hardware and drivers. Windows driver Version is 1.19.165.0 - NVM Version is 9.50 (latest driver and FW version from dell published). DELL statement is, that there is no hardware issue because each single interface is working well. Are there any known issues in this case?
We are facing the problem since we changed the hardware model to DELL PowerEdge R750 with Intel X710 cards. On DELL PowerEdge R740 with X550 cards which were supportet in the past, we are not facing the problem. Also on Intel X722 cards there are no problems in teaming.
Kind regards,
Andreas

Hello Pujeeth,
thanks for your reply. In last week we isolated the issue in following manners:
One new findings came out last week: only Download direction to a server with Intel X710 NICs is affected. Upload stays the same with 2-3 Gbit/s with iperf Test.
Environment: Windows 2022 DC, Dell PowerEdge R750 mit 2 separate PCIX Intel X710 Network Cards.
We create in our Datacenter Infrastructure a virtual switch (switched embedded teaming) on a hyper v host with following commands:
new-vmswitch -EnableEmbeddedTeaming $true -name "HostInfra" -NetAdapterName "Host_1","Host_2"
Test with iperf Tool:
.\iperf3.exe -c TestHost-1 (with X710 card) -w 2m -t 30s -i 1s
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bitrate
[ 5] 0.00-30.00 sec 8.78 GBytes 2.51 Gbits/sec sender
[ 5] 0.00-30.00 sec 8.78 GBytes 2.51 Gbits/sec receiver
After adding one virtual Network Card performance for Download (Direction to the host) goes down:
From here the problem comes active:
add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name SMB1 -SwitchName HostInfra
Before rebooting the server - from the server to another server performance is ok but after a reboot download speed direction to the server with the Intel x710 NICs is low - 80-90 MBit/s
iperf Test in direction to the affected server with X710 card
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bitrate
[ 5] 0.00-30.00 sec 304 MBytes 84.9 Mbits/sec sender
[ 5] 0.00-30.02 sec 302 MBytes 84.3 Mbits/sec receiver
2nd Test Environment: Windows 2022 DC, Dell PowerEdge R750 mit 2 separate Intel PCIx X550 or 2 PCIx Broadcom 10 Gbit Network Cards.
Performance is as expected with same network configuration:
iperf Test in direction to a server with 2 Broadcom cards (also tested on Intel X550 NICs which also is ok.)
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bitrate
[ 5] 0.00-30.00 sec 7.33 GBytes 2.10 Gbits/sec sender
[ 5] 0.00-30.02 sec 7.33 GBytes 2.10 Gbits/sec receive
We do a ISO copy from our template machine to a Hyper V Host and found out, that this SMB Copy is about 20-30 MB/s upload to the server.
We also tuned the Network card parameters from your documentation which doesn´t took an speed advantage in this case.
Kind regards,
Andreas

Hello Pujeeth,
last week we got a resolution for this issue. The VMQ settings and vrss settings for the Host Management Interface was setted wrong which is configured over the VMM and is pushed to our hosts. The machines which were deployed with Intel X550 cards and broadcom cards has automatically corrected VMQ to work without performance decreasement. The Intel X710 machines didn´t apply it in a way were ingoing traffic is getting low speed. So we corrected the VMQ setting on the VMM and it works now for us.
Cheers,
Andreas
