Do I need to reflash the 82577LC Gigabit network card? If so, how?

When I boot my Lenovo X201i laptop with Win 7 64-bit I get the error message:" Initializing Intel Boot Agent GE V1.3.51

PXE-E05 The LAN adapter's NVM configuration is corrupted or has not been initialized. The Boot Agent cannot continue"

However, the computer boots, but after several weeks of flakey behavior in which I need the network troubleshooter to reestablish connection, now I cannot access the network at all. The entire time network troubleshooter has been returning the message:

The Intel(R) 82577LC Gigabit Network Connection adapter is experiencing driver- or hardware-related problems

and The Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN adapter is experiencing driver- or hardware-related problems

The troubleshooter listed the following details:

Diagnostics Information (Network Adapter)

Details about network adapter diagnosis:

Network adapter Local Area Connection 2 driver information:

There is much more information provided, but I will only post if told that it is relevant.

Updating the driver did not help. What is status code 10?

Is this indeed a situation in which the 82577LC can be repaired? If so, where can I find instructions on how to do it?

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul1957ef,

Thank you for posting in Wired Communities. The eeprom in the 82577LC is corrupted, you may try re-flashing the EEPROM. As this is an onboard NIC on Lenovo* system, I would recommend you to contact Lenovo* since OEM NIC are support by the system manufacturere. You may refer to the support option for ethernet controller at link below

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006628/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html%3Fwapkw%3Doem%2Bnetwork https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006628/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html?wapkw=oem+network

It is to be noted OEMs may provide custom flash firmware images for OEM network adapters. So it is recommended to refer to the instructions given by OEM system manufacturer.

Below links are provided here for your reference about flash firmware utility. We download the Preboot.exe which contains the image file and create a bootable disk and copy the utility tool and image file in the boot disk. Boot up the system using the bootdisk and run the command in the Dos mode. However as mentioned to ensure the correct image is re-flash please get in touch with Lenovo as they are in better position to support and check on the hardware aspect of the onboard NIC.

1) Upgrade, Enable, or Disable Flash with the Intel® Ethernet Flash Firmware Utility

2) Bootutil command and how it works

With regards to the error 10 code, please try update the driver from Lenovo*.

Hope the above information help.

Regards,

Sharon T

Hi Paul1957ef,

As an additional information, since you encountered code 10 error after loading the driver, this might be an indication of hardware issue, you may double check with the board vendor which is in better position to check on the hardware part.

Thanks,
