FreeBSD Driver for 82575 - no difference in sources except version number between 2.5.18 and 2.5.19

Hello,

We are comparing FreeBSD Driver for 82575 network adapter of the versions 2.5.18 and 2.5.19 and we see no changes in sources except the version number.

Does someone know if it is by design or a bug ?

The reason we are asking is that starting version 2.5.18 the product with I211-AT adapter that is used for TCP/IP communication stopped to work after Ethernet cable disconnection and reconnection again - it is not possible to connect to the product anymore.

Any information in this subject is appreciated.

Thank you,

Oleg

Hello Oleg,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

Kindly provide the following information that would help in checking your query.

1. Can you confirm if the driver you referred to was downloaded from link below?

Intel® Network Adapter Driver for 82575/6 and 82580-Based Gigabit Network Connections under FreeBSD*

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/14610/intel-network-adapter-driver-for-82575-6-and-82580-based-gigabit-network-connections-under-freebsd.html

2. Please confirm if your query is related to both Intel® Ethernet Controller I211-AT and Intel® 82575 Gigabit Ethernet Controller on a FreeBSD environment?

3. Any other changes made prior to issue?

4. How often does the issue occurs?

5. Please also share more details regarding the issue you encountered.

Looking forward to your reply.

We will follow up after 3 business days in case we don't hear from you.

Hello Crisselle,

I confirm that the driver was downloaded from provided link -  we compared versions 2.5.18 and 2.5.19 and we see no changes in sources except the version number.

Can you please confirm that there are no changes in sources between versions 2.5.18 and 2.5.19 ?

The query is related to Intel® Ethernet Controller I211-AT, it uses the same FreeBSD Driver for 82575 family.

The issue always occur with version 2.5.18, each time you disconnect the network cable and connect it back.

No other changes were made except changing the driver.

Thank you,

Oleg

Hello Oleg,

Thank you for the swift response.

Before we escalate this case to our engineers to check if there are no changes in sources between versions 2.5.18 and 2.5.19, we hope you don't mind sharing if you already tried version 2.5.19 but same issue occurs? Or you wanted to confirm first if there are changes in sources between versions 2.5.18 and 2.5.19 before you test it?

Please also confirm that the issue is not present on version 2.5.16.

Awaiting to your response.

Should there be no reply, we will follow up after 3 business days.

Hello Crisselle,

We compared 2.5.18 and 2.5.19 folders and we did not see any changes except the version number.

you can download both and compare the folder contents using WinMerge or Beyond Compare.

We cannot confirm if 2.5.16 is working or not, since the last version we used was 2.5.9.

This driver is a part of 3rd party RTOS we are using, and once the driver was updated from 2.5.9 to 2.5.18, the issue appeared.

We spoke with this company and they do not have the resources to try 2.5.16.

Thank you,

Oleg

Hello Oleg,

Thank you for the patience on this matter.

We already escalated this request and heard an update from our higher level support. We hope you don't mind sharing the additional information below and clarifications that would help in further investigating the issue.

You mentioned that the issue encountered each time you disconnect the network cable, connect it back and does not connect anymore? Can you confirm if you need to reboot the system for you to reconnect back?

May we also know the reason why you are disconnecting the network cable? Is it for troubleshooting purposes or are you using a laptop for example?

We have latest 2.5.21 driver version link below. Will you be able to try it first? If no, may we know the reason why? Is it due to possible downtime?

We hope to hear from you soon.
