Gigabit CT to I210-T1 compatibility

Hi,

I would like to know if I am planning to replace my Gigabit CT ethernet adapter to I210-T1, will the I210-T1 will be direct plug in compatible or require PCB changes? As the Gigabit CT interface type is PCIe 1.1 while I210-T1 is PCIe 2.1, and the dimension for I210-T1.

Thank you.

Hello YB,

Apologies for the delay on our update. We have posted last November 16 but our update was not successfully posted due to downtime.

Sharing again below information from our higher level support.

Yes, the I210-T1 can be use as an upgrade path from Intel Gigabit CT Ethernet adapter. The I210-T1 adaptor's PCIe transfer rate is 2.5 GT/s so it technically would not be affected if it installed on PCIe 1.1 slot.

Please see Ark information for the comparison of the two adapters

For dimensions, the information can be found in Product Briefs below

Intel Ethernet Server Adapter I210 Product Brief

Additionally, you may also need to consider the supported Operating System and if drivers are available. You may also need to check with motherboard manufacturer if they have validated components such as Ethernet Adapters so you would be able to confirm if the I210-T1 adapter is validated.

Hello YB,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

Please provide the following information that would help in checking your query.

1. How many adapters are involved on this request?

2. What is the model of the motherboard where you will install the adapter?

3. Have you tried checking with you motherboard manufacturer if the I210-T1 is compatible on their board?

4. May we know the reason why do you plan to replace your Intel® Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter? This is just for our record purposes.

Awaiting to your reply.

We will follow up after 3 business days in case we don't hear from you.

Hi Crisselle,

Sorry that I am unable to answer most of your questions, as I am asking on behalf of our customer.

Customer is switching to I210-T1 because the Gigabit CT EOL notification has been released.

However, I believe that as PCIe 2.1 is backward compatible, there should not be any problem to use it on PCIe 1.1 slot.

Thank you.

Hello YB,

No worries at all. Appreciate the time you have taken on sending a reply.

Based on the PCN, the recommended replacement unit for the Intel® Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter is Intel Ethernet Server Adapter I210T. There should not be any problem on this as long as the Intel Ethernet Server Adapter I210T1 is listed as validated card for the motherboard.

But to further check and confirm, please allow us to consult this with our engineers. We will give you an update as soon as possible but no later than 2-3 business days.

Hoping for your kind patience.
