How do I identify the correct driver .sys file for an Intel Ethernet Adapter i340-T4? Windows 10 1909 installs a Microsoft driver, but when I try to Team the NIC, the PROSet Utility does not recognize the NIC and updating returns "no intel device found"

I managed to find and install the driver manually for an i350 adapter. I searched all of the driver package files (25.0.1 and 25_1), but could not find any reference to an i340, just for the i350.

This is on a multi-boot system using Windows 7 Pro. and Windows 10 Pro. I had no problem using the 25.0.1 Package installer on the Win. 7 Pro. hard drive. On the Win. 10 Pro. system, all of the Intel driver packages and 3rd party driver installers cannot find an Intel device.

The i350 driver on an i340 NIC seems to function ok, but I'm concerned there might be other issues I'm not seeing by using the i350 driver. Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello PPort5,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

Unfortunately, Intel Ethernet Adapter I340-T4 has only In-box Support for Windows 10 Operating System.

Please visit the link below for the Supported Operating Systems for Retail Intel® Ethernet Adapters

https://www.intel.sg/content/www/xa/en/support/articles/000025890/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html

In-box support

  • Driver and software updates aren't planned for adapters with only in-box support. These adapters can't be updated using automated or manual methods.
  • Intel® PROSet for Windows* Device Manager and Intel® Advanced Network Services (Intel® ANS) driver for teaming and VLANS aren't included with in-box support.
  • To add an adapter with in-box support to a team using multi-vendor teaming (MVT), see the user guide.

Let us know if you have additional questions and clarifications on this matter.

We look forward to your response.

In case we don't hear from you, we will follow up after 3 business days.

Best regards,

My apologies for not responding to your email.  Thank you for your answer to my question.  I'm just not sure what is meant by, "boxed support"?  Though, this will not be a problem in the future as I will continue to update my i340-4T adapter as I explained in my original post.  This seems to work ok in Windows 10 Pro. so it should not be too difficult with Windows 7 Pro. and Ultimate. On another note, I still have not found the solution as why Windows 10 Pro. stops the Intel update package or other 3rd party driver installers from recognizing the i340-4T adapter in the system.  It's weird, because Window 7 Pro. & Ultimate does not do this.  Again my sincerest apologies for my tardy response and thank you very much for your explanation.  Above all else, STAY SAFE!! Hello Paul,

No problem at all, your reply is highly appreciated.

As I mentioned on my initial post, unfortunately, Intel Ethernet Adapter I340-T4 does not have full driver support and has only inbox support for Windows 10 Operating system. For that reason the installation of the drivers has been failing and it is expected. This adapter works using the inbox driver already installed by Windows.

Driver and software updates aren't planned for adapters with only in-box support. These adapters can't be updated using automated or manual methods.

It is working fine on your Windows 7 as it is fully supported on Windows 7 Operating System. You may visit the link I have provided on my initial response for the list of Supported Operating Systems for Retail Intel® Ethernet Adapters

Let us know if you have additional questions or clarifications on this matter.

We hope to hear from you soon.

We will follow up after 3 business days in case we don't receive a reply.
