Hello apapr,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

For me to further check this issue, let me gather the following details.

  1. You are getting Link not detected error, but let me clarify if you are not getting a connection at all?
  2. Are you using on-board NIC or a PCIe NIC card?
  3. What is your operating system?
  4. What is the network driver version installed?
  5. What is the model of your system?

If you have questions, please let us know.

Best regards,

Hello apapr,

Base on your reply, it seems that your XL710 has some issues since the old NIC is working on your system in the same slot. Can you also check with your board manufacturer if your XL710 is validated/compatible with the board?

If you have questions, please let us know.

Is there any debugging that I can do on basis of some LED color on card, or anything else. As in dmesg is shows all information that shows card is detected and has 2 ports. I am suspecting that NIC and board compatibility don't have any issues. Kindly suggest if any other pathways. By that time I am planning to arrange another machine to debug above suggestion.

Also I am using breakout cable, can it create some issue? 40G to 10G breakout?

Thanks for your help and support

Hello apapr,

The easiest way is hardware isolation. By doing that, you can easily tell if the card is incompatible or faulty. By the way, just like what I mentioned earlier, you may try contacting your board manufacturer check the compatibility and check if they have a debug tool as well.

If you have questions, please let us know.

I just want to check if you already tried our last recommendation which is to isolate your NIC card.

If you have questions, please let us know.

I bought it through amazon, I don't think they have replacement policy for more than 15days. Is there any other way I can do so?

Can you provide the markings of the NIC?

Or please send photos of the NIC focusing on the markings on both side of the card.

If you have questions, please let us know.

Hello apapr,

I am sorry, please provide other markings of the card that can help us identify and validate the markings. If you can send photos focusing on the markings on both sides of the card, that would be better.

If you have questions, please let us know.
