Intel E810 series hardware timestamping

Hello,

for our current project we need to hardware timestamp every incoming packet.
The product brief states: "Time stamp with each Rx packet".

Are here really all packets meant or only the PTP packets?
Further, what is meant by "Selective time stamps for Tx packets"?

Has anyone an Intel E810 NIC and could post the output of "ethtool -T <nic>"?

Thanks and best regards.

Hello TIE1996,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

Before we proceed, can you clarify if you are designing a system with Intel Ethernet card? Please provide more details about your inquiry.

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Hello Michael,

thank you for your quick reply.

We are using the Intel ethernet cards to record network data. Currently we are using the X710 Series.
However, in the next project increment we need to acquire a hardware timestamp for every received packet.
Therefore we need to change the ethernet cards and in the product brief of the E810 series the timestamping capabilities are only mentioned very briefly.

It would be nice if you could answer the questions I asked above.

Best regards

Hello TIE1996,

Thank you for the clarification. Let me try to check if we have a guide on how to get the timestamp for your ethernet card. Please give us 2 to 3 business days to provide an update.

Thank you and stay safe.

Hello TIE1996,

Thank you for patiently waiting for our update. Upon checking, the Intel® Ethernet Controller E810 Datasheet is located in our Intel Resource and Design Center. That datasheet is also considered the Programmers guide and It also contains Timestamp information. However, this requires an access so we will transfer this case to proper support group to guide you acquiring the access.

You will be contacted via email within 24 to 48 business hours.

This is the file that you need to download once you have the access.

Hi

I have an issue with E810 NIC card. I need to enable PTP hardware timestamping. The NIC is connected to a VM with passthrough enabled and PCI card is detected . But PTP Hardware Clock shows None.
