Intel Gigabit CT: Cannot install drivers. No Intel® Adapters are present in this computer - Windows 8.1

Hello, I need some help with this. I'm using Windows 8.1 RTM. The latest Intel package (18.5) won't install if I don't upgrade the 12.6 driver that comes with Windows. If I do, (12.7 - Windows Update) the installer runs but it keeps the old driver. Thanks.

Hi Slich,

The only Windows 8.1 driver for that adapter is the driver that is included in Windows, which is why the driver does not get updated when you install the latest software download. I found this information at http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/CS-034443.htm http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/CS-034443.htm

Alright, but the readme file says:

What's New in This Release

==========================

- Support for Microsoft Windows 8.1

- Support for Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2

- Support for the Intel(R) Ethernet OCP Server Adapter X520-2

- Support for the Intel(R) Ethernet OCP Server Adapter X520-1

- Removed driver and software support for Microsoft Windows Vista*

- Removed driver and software support for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R1

- Removed Microsoft Windows driver and software support for Itanium-based systems

I realized that the Windows Update driver (12.7) is the same as the included in the latest Intel package, but you cannot complete the installation (with PROSet and other stuff) if you use the "box" driver (12.6). Thank you for replying.

You are right. The new software package does add support for Windows 8.1. Unfortunately, your adapter is an older design that will not be supported with software and driver updates. The driver included with Windows 8.1 is both the first and the last driver for that adapter for Windows 8.1.

But only a few "server adapters" have "full support" for Windows 8.1. That's weird. Whatever
