Intel state the resolution is in the form of an NVM update that they won't release to the public. They refer you to your OEM for the update.
MSI state there is no update, and they can't help other than to RMA the board.
There's no fault with the motherboard, just the i226-v that needs a firmware update.
Why can't intel just supply an update tool like they did with the i225v?
I am fed up of playing customer support tennis. I just want a working product.

Hello superdimitri,
Greetings for the day!!
Thank you for posting in the Intel Community. We sincerely apologize for the delay in our response.
We would like to appreciate your suggestion and will pass this to our internal team as well.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused. However, our support for this controller is limited as it is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) product. Intel supplies these chipsets to OEMs, who pre-install and customize them to function optimally with their boards. Therefore, we recommend reaching out to the OEM support team for further assistance.
Regards,
