Intel NUC DC3217BY + Apple Thunderbold to Ethernet WOL

Hello everybody,

I have purchased the NUC DC 3217BY (the thunderbold edition) in which i am running Windows 7 home premium with service pack 1. Since there is no LAN on this model i purchased also an Apple Thunderbold to Ethernet adapter which i have installed with the Broadcom netxtream drivers.

Although everything seems to work fine with the internet connection, i cannot make the Wake On Lan work. As soon as the NUC falls asleep, the link indicator on the router is goes dark so no power after sleep. I have all the correct settings in BIOS and on windows but still i cannot make it work.

Is this a problem of the drivers? Does anyone with the same configuration solved it somehow?

Also, if this is not possible to solve, can i leave the NUC on 24/7 or is it going to cause any problem to the board?

It is very important to me to have a WOL for my NUC. In case it is not possible via the Thunderbolt, could you please let me know if any of the WiFi Modules support WOWLAN?

I have been googling a lot but i do not have a clear answer... Thank you for your time!

Hello Michael, the Thunderbolt* controller included with this Intel® NUC model supports PCI Express and DisplayPort* protocols.

At this moment, only the devices including Thunderbolt*2.0 will be supporting Gigabit Ethernet.

at first, thank you for your answer. Let me ask for some clarifications though:

Does this mean that i can install any driver i would like and it will work with the adapter? I know already that with realtek PCIE family drivers the wake on lan works (i have it on my Lenovo laptop).

In the first link it is specified that WOWLAN will work only with Windows 8. However, when i look in the download center, i see versions of drivers for Windows 7 also:

In the latest version 17.1.0 for Windows 7 it is not specified that the WoWLAN is removed as opposed to the older version 15.3.1. So will the WoWLAN work with the latest version on Windows 7?

1. The Technical Product Specification indicates that no drivers are required for the Thunderbolt* interface; therefore I cannot guarantee that the driver you are referring about will work or if it will cause undesired results with the system. Actually, it is not recommended to install a driver that was not designed for this system.
2. The information I provided earlier indicates WOWLAN is supported with driver versions 15.6 or above, in Windows* 8
