I bought some Intel gigabit ET dual port server adapters and found that some of these adapters are shown as "Intel gigabit ET dual port server adapter" in the Windows Device Manager but the others are shown as "Intel 82576 gigabit dual port network connection".

I'd like to known what is the difference with them. Thank you!

Hi 张康平,

Thank you for the post. The "Intel gigabit ET dual port server adapter" refers to the standalone ET dual port network adapter (which means the network adapter you can plug in and out from the system). While the "Intel 82576 gigabit dual port network connection" refers to onboard NIC on the system, it is an Intel ethernet controller embedded on third party vendor's system. It is possible your system has an onboard NIC using 82576 Intel ethernet controller chipset.

Hope this clarified.

Thanks,

Thank you for your answer!

But I'm quite sure that there is no "Intel 82576 gigabit dual port network connection" on my computer, and it appeared just because the ET adapter plugged in.

I find that the adpters shown as "Intel 82576 gigabit dual port network connection" are produced in 2013.

And the adapters shown as "Intel gigabit ET dual port server adapter" are produced in 2015.

Maybe there is something wrong with the adapters produced in 2013?

Hi 张康平,

Please provide the serial number of the network adapter that appeared as Intel 82576 gigabit dual port network connection". The serial number can be found at the front of the network adapter with bar code, the format is 12 alphanumeric + 5 alphanumeric + 6 digits - 3 digits. (xxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxx xxxxxx-xxx)

What is the brand and model of your system?

Thanks,

I tried these adapters on HP Z620 workstation and Dell 7040MT and on both they are shown as 82576.

The serial numbers are :

Hi 张康平,

Thank you for the information. The serial numbers you provided refers to three different NIC models, please refer to my clarification below:

1) For NIC serial number end with G45270-002 this refers to Intel® Converged Network Adapter X540-T2

2) NICs end with G15138-001 refers to http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products/intel-gigabit-server-adapters/intel-ethernet-server-adapter-i350-series/intel-ethernet-server-adapter-i350-t2.html Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter I350-T2

3) NICs end with G15814-001 refers to http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products/intel-gigabit-server-adapters/intel-ethernet-server-adapter-i350-series/intel-ethernet-server-adapter-i350-f2.html Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter I350-F2

You can check the model in the following URL

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products/000005612.html

e.g. Search the "G15138" at above URL you will be able to find the corresponding NIC model there.

X540-T2 used X540 ethernet controller while I350 used I350 ethernet controller, they should shown as X540 or I350 in the device manager based on the model.

For the meantime, I will further check for you.

Thanks,

But all the serial numbers above is on the ET dual port adapters I bought and shown as 82576 in the device manager.

It's so strange.

Now I suspect these adapters are not certified products.

I think I shall contect my supplier to change them.

Thank you very much!

HI 张康平,

Thank you for the clarification. The serial number you provided are not for ET Dual port adapter, apparently there are something wrong with the network adapters you bought. I am sorry to hear this and please do contact your point of purchase.

It is recommended to purchase Intel network adapter from Intel authorized resellers which you can locate at http://locate.intel.com , if the NIC you bought has Yottamark label, please try log on to verify.yottamark.com to verify the network adapters. Here is the website for your reference:

Hope this help.
