Network not working with Centos 7 install and e1000e driver

I have a fresh install of centos 7 on an asrock z97 extreme4 motherboard and I am having major networking issues. When I first start the network the connection is fast and works great but only after thirty seconds to a minute the network slows down so much it stops working and it slows down all connected devices. The driver I am using is the e1000e. I have tried multiple different versions with the same issue. Is there some kind of custom tuning I need to do on this driver?

P.S. I have the exact same OS version and Kernel installed on a Toshiba laptop and the ethernet works great, the only difference is the hardware and drive so I know that the driver is the issue.

I am sorry, support for Linux-based O/Ss is not provided in the Desktop Boards forum. I have moved your query into the Wired Ethernet forum where it can hopefully get access to more knowledgeable folks...

Someone else posted about using the ethtool command to change the speed and the duplex of the connection. I tried changing the router's settings from Auto to 100/full and changing the ethernet to match but it still produced the same results. I changed the settings back to "ethtool -s enp0s25 autoneg on" and so forth. The image shows speed and duplex unknown as the ethernet is not connect atm. I am not sure what else to try.

Hello dd83:

I just wanted to let you know that in order to get support for this networking problem, you just need to get in contact with ASrock directly, since they are the manufacturers of the board, and the support in regard to this matter that we provide is for the NIC's on Intel boards and NUCs.

ASrock's phone number: (909) 590-8308

ASrock's support site: http://www.asrock.com/support/ http://www.asrock.com/support/

Regards

So you're essentially saying you don't support Intel hardware or Intel software drivers? I mean it's branded with YOUR company logo. I've searched these forums and have found nothing but issues with this I218-v. Thank you for the advice though.

Hello dd83:

Let me apologize for any inconvenience.

Even if it says Intel, if the network interface card is embedded on the board, then the support for that will be provided by the manufacturer of the board.

Just in case, there are some external interface cards, and if you use one of them, then we can always assist you with that.

Also, remember that the support provided by Intel, in regard to our products, is when they use Windows, that is the way Intel did the testing of them, so, if you are using Linux, the best thing to do will be to access your Linux distro's website and forums for peer assistance with this issue and to get the drivers needed at:

Any questions, please let me know.

Well it does run Windows well. I'm a system engineer and I run Centos on my servers at work so I was wanting to keep things the same at home. I guess my next question is does Intel support the e1000e driver that is provided by them on the Downloads page? If so then this is where I need to be because it's a driver issue, per my experience as an engineer.

Hello dd83:

Yes, we do support that driver, is just that it works for the following Intel network devices:

Intel® 82571EB Gigabit Ethernet Controller

Intel® 82572EI Gigabit Ethernet Controller

Intel® 82573E Gigabit Ethernet Controller

Intel® 82573L Gigabit Ethernet Controller

Intel® 82573V Gigabit Ethernet Controller

As you can confirm on the following link:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/9007/Windows-XP-Drivers-Tools-E1000EXP-EXE- https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/9007/Windows-XP-Drivers-Tools-E1000EXP-EXE-

The network controller on your board is Giga PHY Intel® I218V as you can confirm here:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Extreme4/?cat=Specifications http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Extreme4/?cat=Specifications

So, that driver will not work, remember that all the drivers and all the support for this board is provided by the manufacturer, on the following link you just need to choose the operating system you are using and you will get the drivers, including the LAN/network driver:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Extreme4/?cat=Download http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Extreme4/?cat=Download

Any questions, please let me know.

So let's back up, the term 'ethernet adapter' on the driver downloads page does not include the on board ethernet port? If that's the case then you are right, I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Hello dd83:

In regard to your question, our web site does include support for the on board ethernet port, but that is for Intel motherboards.

We also support networking on motherboards from a different brand, but that is when you purchase an Intel external NIC (network interface card), that has its own ethernet port, in those cases we can always assist you with that.

Now, if you have a motherboard that is not Intel, but you are trying to get drivers or support for the on board ethernet port, in those cases the support is provided by the manufacturer of the board, in this case ASrock.

Any questions, please let me know.
