New Gigabyte Z790 board keeps disconnecting from Internet. I225-V (3) controller problem

Hi guys, recently bought Gigabyte Z790 AERO G mobo with integrated I225-V (3) controller, and since then, i have random disconnects on daily basis. Sometimes need to disable/enable adapter to get it working again, sometimes physical reconnect, and even need to reboot PC.
Saw in past people had problems with very same controller, on Z490 boards, but can't find anywhere firmware update tool and never firmware for this particular ethernet card.

Have all the updates, as well as BIOS.

My event viewer shows error 37 and 32

Hello jucca,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

For us to further check the issue, please provide the following details.

  1. What is your OS?
  2. Can you share the link of the network driver that you are using?
  3. Is there a particular program that is causing the issue?

Hi Mike

I'm using Windows 11 22H2

Drivers were first downloaded from Gigabyte  page:

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z790-AERO-G-rev-10/support#support-dl-driver-lan

Didn't worked, then I downloaded driver package from your page:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/727998/intel-network-adapter-driver-for-microsoft-windows-11.html

Mostly crashes when playing online games, like Shatterline, COD MW2, iRacing.

Hello jucca,

Appreciate the quick reply. We have a documented recommendation for the issue. Please check the link below:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000057261/ethernet-products/gigabit-ethernet-controllers-up-to-2-5gbe.html

To update the NVM firmware, you need to contact the OEM manufacturer which is Gigabyte. Intel's NVM update file will not work and may damage OEM cards and vice versa. Onboard/Embedded network cards are considered as an OEM unit so it is best to coordinate the issue further with Gigabyte.

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Thanks for replay.
As I stated in first post, there's no tool to update FW in Gigabyte page

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z790-AERO-G-rev-10/support#support-dl

However, found one utility, wich saysbI have 1.68FW wich I believe is the latest one

Hello jucca,

Thank you for quick reply. Different manufacturers may have different procedure in updating the NVM firmware and they should have their own NVM file as well. It is best to contact Gigabyte and ask them for the update procedure.

Thanks for answer.

Yes, i did contacted Gigabyte, and they want to RMA my board. But what's the point if the failure would be the same.

I have already latest FW on my Intel NIC

Hello jucca,

Thank you for the update and we are glad that Gigabyte is now helping you, If you will have the same issue, kindly coordinate with Gigabyte since it is an OEM unit, they may have altered the network card so they know how to diagnose it.

Since the board is now for RMA, we will close this case now.

If you need any additional information, please submit a new question as this thread will no longer be monitored.

Thank you and stay safe.
