No connection x710 with DELL R650

I have a Dell R650 server with an Intel Ethernet Converged Network Adapter x710 network card, VMware 8.0 operating system, the server works well interconnected to a Juniper 4550 switch, but when I migrate it to a Juniper 4600 switch it is not seen on the switch side nor does the loopback or the local IP respond, I have another identical server in model and brand DELL 650, same operating system, the only thing that changes is the network card which in this case is a Broadcom ADV Dual 10G Ethernet, I connect this server to the same port on the Juniper 4600 switch in the port of the server that does not work it has no problem, everything works fine, any idea why this happens with the combination of Dell R650 server, VMware 8.0 operating system but with an Intel Ethernet Converged Network Adapter x710 network card? Thanks for the help or guidance you can give me.

Hello Poojitha.

I haven't been able to collect the card photos because the server is in production. However, I was able to collect the following card data by searching the inventory.

DATE MANUFACTURE: 02/2023 MADE IN MALASYA
51G03 MAC: 6C - FE - 54 - 72 - 39 - C0
INTEL MSIP-REM-CPU-H5

Thank you for any help you can give me with this situation.

Kindly Regards.

Hello Vikas.

I'm sending the data I have on this matter, because I'm not allowed to open the server to watch serials, and in inventory this is the most I could get.

1.Complete model number and serial number of NIC:

Answer 1.

D33025
DATE MANUFACTURE: 02/2023 MADE IN MALASYA
DP/N 051G03 MY-051G03 - FLMIT - 328 - 01UY - A00
51G03 MAC: 6C - FE - 54 - 72 - 39 - C0
INTEL MSIP-REM-CPU-H54180
PCI Express

This is the maximun data I was able to collect form the network card.

2.Please confirm if the NIC was purchased separately or pre-installed.

Answer 2.

This card already came with the server.

3.Please let us know the driver and firmware details of NIC

Answer 3.

I am reviewing this information so that it can be provided to you.

However, remember that the problem I have is not with VMWare, but that I connect the Dell R650 server with an Intel X710 card to a juniper ex4600 port 0/0/8 switch and I do not receive any information, I was looking at the switch and not even LLDP information arrives. I did the same test with another Dell R650 server but this one has a Broadcom card in the same switch port 0/0/8 I receive LLDP and it works fine, I did a third test with a NetApp Storage with a NetApp Network Card and I connected it to the same switch port 0/0/8 and I receive LLDP and it works fine. These same 3 devices, the 2 Dell R650 servers and 1 storage NetApp, I have them connected to an old juniper ex4550 switch and they work fine, but I realized that the server with the intel X710 card even though it works on the old ex4550 switch, does not reflect LLDP information on the switch. As you can see, the issue isn't related to VMware. It's something with the Intel X710 card, but I don't really know what it could be. In the meantime, I'm continuing to investigate the firmware and driver you requested in question 3.

Kindly Regards.

Dear NelmaH79,

Greetings!

The issue you’re facing appears to be a compatibility or configuration mismatch between the Intel X710 adapter and the Juniper EX4600 switch. Since the Broadcom adapter works fine in the same scenario, the problem is likely related to the X710’s link negotiation, firmware, or driver settings.

Additionally, as this NIC was provided with a Dell system, we recommend reaching out to the OEM for further assistance, as they are best equipped to support this configuration.

Please let us know if you need any further guidance.

Hello Azeem.

I'd like to inform you that the following tests were performed.

I connected a Broadcom storage to port 2 of the Juniper EX4600 and it worked well on the same network segment and VLAN, at the same time I connected a DELL R630 server with an Intel X520 network card to port 3 of the Juniper EX4600 on the same network segment and VLAN and it worked well, to port 5 of the Juniper EX4600 I connected a DELL R650 server with a network card that they gave us by RMA which is an Intel X710 and it worked for 1 minute, after that it fell and no longer responds, ICMP is not seen in LLDP or ARP negotiation, that server was no longer observed, it was restarted but this was not successful either with the same network segment and VLAN, seeing that the DELL R650 with an Intel X710 network card did not work, it was disconnected from port 5 of the switch and another DELL R630 server with an Intel X520 network card was connected there and it worked well at that The server was even assigned the same IP address as the R650 server, which doesn't work with the Intel x710.

Based on the above, the Juniper configurations have been discarded because nothing had to be modified for the Broadcom and the R630s with Intel X520 to work, even on the same port 5 where the R650 with Intel x710 was connected, which still doesn't work.

What is your recommendation in this regard? Is there anything that can be done on the Intel side, or should I contact Dell support to discuss a possible solution or troubleshooting?

Thank you for your kind response.

Kindly regards.
