Installed Windows 2012 R2 : RSS Profile : NUMAStatic (Default)
After Installed NIC Driver(I350 4 Port) : RSS Profile : Closest
I want to know why Intel sets RSS Profiles to Closest.
Closest was default value on Windows 2008/R2.
If you just don't change from Windows 2008/R2, it is fine. I can change.
But I need to know there is any reason.
Actually I need to change to NUMAStatic, but I have concern about to change RSS Profile, if there is any reason to set "Closest' as default.

Hi Kuwit,
The reason RSS profile is set to "Closest" as default is to improve CPU utilization. If you wish to use NUMAstatic, this is also supported, you can refer to below website for reference:

Thanks for the answer.
I already read one of known issues which in you answer
I'm curious for that even there are known issues, does Intel sets closest to improve CPU utilization for Windows Server 2012/R2?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One more question about RSS Profile
Tested on below system
- HP DL360 Gen9 (2667 v4 * 2ea)
- 1GB 4port 366FLR (Intel/1G*2ea Team/LACP)
- Windows 2012 R2 Standard
- RSS : Enabled
- RSS Queue : 8
I expect 16 queues will working with "Closest"
But result is below.
Closest - around 8 queues work
ClosestStatic - 16 queues work
NUMA - around 12 queues work
NUMAStatic - 16 queues work
Is this result correct you designed?

HI Kuwit,
Thank you for the update. Yes, this is to reduce CPU utilization. For the results, can you share what are the commands with the parameter you executed?
Thanks,
Sharon

Hi Kuwit,
Further checking, since the "closest" is dynamic, it will change based on load, hardware configuration, environment, and other things running on the system and the network.
In order to come up with best performance, this should be done with the actual data and load expected while monitoring a number of factors such as CPU, RAM, and disk utilization among other things.
Thanks,
Sharon

Hi Kuwit,
You are welcome. You may refer to our User guide for some reference information but it did not have specific information about including dynamic or not.
Here is the reference download link:

You may refer to the Microsoft website for additional information.
