Reduced Data transfer rate Network Adapter X550-T2

Hi there,

I’m using Intel(R) Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X550-T2 for receiving data from a fast camera (Photron FASTCAM Nova S12). The camera has the capability to transfer data at a rate of 10 GB/sec over Ethernet cable (CAT7). However, I’m getting a maximum of 4.6 GB/s transfer rate (when observed via Task manager) only when data is transferred data to on board memory (M2.SSD, Name: MTFDHBA256TDV-1AY1AABHA) of my computer over CAT 7 cable. My computer is HP Z2 Tower G5 Workstation and X550-T2 is in PCIe X16 Slot. I have chosen Jumbo packet size of 9014 bytes in ethernet setting. I have updated all the drivers to the latest.

We really want the data transfer at its maximum capacity.   Could you please let me know what could be the reason and the remedy for this issue?

Pls let me know if you need more details

Thanks

Best

Ratheesh

Hello Ratheesh,

Hope you are doing well.

We have found that you are already using driver version 4.1.239.0 so you do not need to update the driver anymore.

We would like to request you to try out the following settings in ProSet:

1. Please change the Speed & Duplex from Auto Negotiation to 100Mbps/FullDuplex. Make sure that both sides of the link are configured the same way (including switch).

2. If the first procedure did not work, please try changing the "Receive Buffers" and "Transmit Buffers" to 1024 or 2048 in Adapter Settings which the Photron FASTCAM Nova S12 is connected. Based on SSU logs, the X550 ports are configured below:

Intel(R) Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X550-T2

*ReceiveBuffers:Receive Buffers:"4096 (4096)"

*TransmitBuffers:Transmit Buffers:"512 (512)"

Intel(R) Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X550-T2 #2

*ReceiveBuffers:Receive Buffers:"4096 (512)"

*TransmitBuffers:Transmit Buffers:"512 (512)"

3. If both do not work, we suggest to please contact the switch manufacturer (for possible settings) or HP. Our support is limited since you are is using an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Ethernet controller. We understand that this is an Intel based Ethernet controller but since it is an OEM adapter, it would still be best for you to get in touch with HP for further support since they have customized drivers and software to enable or alter features on his system. They are in best position where you can seek assistance so you do not lose features or customizations of the Ethernet controller.

Let us know if you have questions. If we do not hear from you, we will make sure to create a follow-up after 3 business days. Thank you.

We are sorry to hear about this issue you encountered with your Intel(R) Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X550-T2. For us to further investigate on this, please provide the following details.

  1. Were you able to achieve the 10 Gbps transfer rate before?
  2. Were you able to achieve 10 Gbps using another device/system?
  3. Any hardware or software changes before the issue occurred?
  4. Photo of the front and back view of the adapter. We will send you a separate email so you can provide these photos.
  5. Please provide the SSU logs of the system.

Hello Ratheesh,

We have received your response via email. We appreciate the time you took to provide us an update as quickly as possible with our requested information. Based on these information, we have determined that your X55-T2 is an OEM adapter. As such, we have limited support for this device and the best support would be coming from HP.

However, we would like to help you with the best we can with this issue. As such, please allow us some time to further investigate into this. We will provide you with an update as soon as possible but no later than 3 business days.

Thank you and have a nice day.
