I have a system I use as a gateway:

Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection (Lewisville) (rev 04)

It is a component of a fit/PC Intense running Linux is the 4.9.67-1-lts # 1 SMP kernel from Arch Linux. This problem has been going on for several kernels now over the last month.

http://www.fit-pc.com/web/products/specifications/intense-pc-models/?model[]=IPC-C1047-WB-FM4U&model[]=IPC-C3517V-WB-FM4U Intense PC models specifications

It has been having trouble reseting and possibly check summing. I use a ssh proxy tunnel which has always remained open and stable to panix.com. Now it dies

Hi Mrbrklyn,

Thank yo for writing to Wired Communities. As this is an onboard NIC on the Intense PC, have you contacting the PC vendor to check on the onboard NIC which is part of their system? Are you using the driver version from the PC vendor? Please feel free to update me.

Thanks,

Sharon

Hello Sharon

yes I contacted them and there is nothing they can do, and I am not sure what you mean. This is a linux system. I'm not sure what you mean by a "pc vendor". All they know is that it has been burned in and that it has been tested with the linuxx kernel on a variety of distributions. The Kernel module that drives it is e1000e, and it is written, to my knowledge, by intel. It has a variety of options which can be tinkered with, for which I am only lightly familiar.

Hi Mrbrklyn,

Thank you for the reply. The "PC vendor" I refer to is the board manufacturer where this 82576LM ethernet controller is embedded on. Since the chipset is integrated on the board, you may contact them check on the hardware aspect since the you mentioned the ethernet controller kept on reset.

Where did you obtain the driver? Have you tried using the driver from our website at

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/15817/Intel-Network-Adapter-Driver-for-PCIe-Intel-Gigabit-Ethernet-Network-Connections-Under-Linux-?product=47549

Looking forward to your reply,.

Thanks,

Sharon

Hello

The vendor said there is nothing they can do, it is an intel issue.

The software came from www.kernel.org, like all over linux drivers. Can you help me work with the module options? Intel, who wrote these drivers, is the best choice to get help.

Hi Mrbrklyn,

Thank you for the additional information. What you can do is to request from Sourceforge

by clicking on Ticket-Feature Request via the website below (this is the site where Linux driver is available)

Hi Mrbrklyn,

Thank you for the reply. I refer you to contact sourceforge since that is the platform where the Linux driver for the NIC is available and you can request from there for the modification and support. I will also try further check for you.

I sent a ticket there, but they are not responding. I need to know what all the options for the module does. I am still losing cryptographic checks and seeing resets.

I compiled and ran that a couple of weeks ago and there has been no change. I created a ticket on their system but there has been no response.

I don't know why it is so hard to discuss the built in options of the module and how I can manipulate them successfully in an attempt to overcome this problem.

We discuss everything but what I asked. I seriously doubt they will ever debug this or fix it.

Hi MrBrklyn,

The link gives you the download link to e1000e-3.4.0.2.tar.gz which is the driver version you can download. The ixgbe 5.3.5.tar.gz is the latest version post there for 10 Gigabit network adapter. Hope this clarifies.

Thanks,

Hi MrBrklyn,

Can you clarify when you said the adapter is resetting, how does it reset?

I understand you already talked to Intense PC vendor where this NIC is embedded, please double check with them for any driver or BIOS that you should be using for the board and the onboard NIC. Please refer to this website about OEM support:

This problem seems to continue AND I've read about it continually on the internet, others looking for an answer to this. I wish this old bug would be fixed
