Hi,
I am experiencing following problem with two X552 10 Gig NICs:
[ 2.548311] ixgbe 0000:04:00.0: The EEPROM Checksum Is Not Valid
[ 2.548578] ixgbe: probe of 0000:04:00.0 failed with error -5
[ 2.668291] ixgbe 0000:04:00.1: The EEPROM Checksum Is Not Valid
[ 2.668493] ixgbe: probe of 0000:04:00.1 failed with error -5
Using kernel 4.15.0-20-generic , tried also latest Fedora29, same result.
LSPCI :
04:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection X552 10 GbE SFP+ [8086:15ac]
04:00.1 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection X552 10 GbE SFP+ [8086:15ac]
Using ixgbe driver v.5.5.2,
How to solve the problem?
Thanks.
martin.

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your reply.
- Just tried with ixgbe-5.5.3, same problem exists;
- The box is Advantech FWA-3260.
The problem is because of the error:
[245127.871301] ixgbe 0000:04:00.0: The EEPROM Checksum Is Not Valid
[245127.871466] ixgbe: probe of 0000:04:00.0 failed with error -5
[245127.987456] ixgbe 0000:04:00.1: The EEPROM Checksum Is Not Valid
[245127.987579] ixgbe: probe of 0000:04:00.1 failed with error -5
The kernel doesn't initialize the interface, and it can not be used.
root@fwa-3260kse0044899:~/ixgbe-5.5.3/src# ifconfig eth0
eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found
Regards
Martin.

Hi,
According to Advantech, the board is problematic and needs to be replaced.
Thanks.
