Hi,

I'm just looking at a server with X710 card issue - there are two cards shown in device manager, i am unsure of physical setup as the server is in remote location. One of these cards is operational, the other one is reporting "This device cannot start. (Code 10) {Operation Failed}". nvmupdatew64e.exe inventory output is show below, it is showing firmware problem on this card. As attempt to fix the problem I gave firmware update a try already - NVMUpdatePackage 4.53 reports "access denied" in status column, 6.01 which is the latest one reports "update not available". Would it be possible to get recovery of force reflash procedure for this card, please?

Best Regards,

Marcin

Hi Mmogielnicki,

Thank you for posting in Wired Communities. Code 10 error normally refers to outdated for corrupted driver. Just to double check if these two network adapters are onboard NIC embedded on the server or standalone network adapters (but came bundled) with the server? If yes, what is the brand and model of your server?

We have cases in which customer's X710 with firmware version 4.41 is found to be OEM NIC, you may refer to this post for reference

Looking forward to your reply so that I can better assist you. Thank you.

Hi Sharon,

Affected network card was bought on Amazon, full model name on PO is "Brand New Factory Sealed Intel X710DA2BLK Dual Port 10GB Card". it is external PCI card, not integrated on motherboard. This is as much as I can tell about this card. Is there anything I can check remotely to prove that this is genuine Intel product?

This card is seen by OS as two logical network cards. One of them is working fine, the other one shows "Code 10" on startup.

Marcin

Hi Mmogielnicki,

Hope you don't mind I need additional information to check, can you run the SSU tool connecting remotely to the system and gather the SSU log for me?

Download and run the SSU tool on the system https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows-

After that, please send me the SSU log for us to identify further information about the NIC.

Can you help confirm also if the two NICs came bundled with the server system or purchase separately?

Looking forward to your reply. Thank you.

Regards,

Sharon

Hi Sharon,

SSU output is attached. The card in question is reported as two separate NICs - "Intel(R) Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X710" (which is not working and symptoms of it can be seen in SSU output, no MAC is shown for example) and "Intel(R) Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X710 # 2" (which is absolutely fine). Physically it is dual port network card that is shown in this brief.

https://www.intel.co.uk/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/product-briefs/ethernet-x710-brief.pdf https://www.intel.co.uk/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/product-briefs/ethernet-x710-brief.pdf

The card was purchased separately and added to the server past server purchase.

Marcin

Hi Mmogielnicki,

Thank you for providing the information. The PBA number "H54188-005" of your X710 is found to be an OEM partnumber of Dell. As you can see at this link, Intel's retail X710's part number is J11367 or J31241 depends on the model

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005612/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html?eu-cookie-notice

As this is an OEM model, you may contact Dell* support for the firmware which is suitable for your NIC. You may refer to this post which has similar inquiries for reference:

https://communities.intel.com/thread/103665 https://communities.intel.com/thread/103665

Hope the above information clarifies.

Thanks,
