XL710 QSFP+ Configuration gives Invalid image on the adapter

Hello,

I have an Intel XL710 with an Intel QSFP+ optic installed in it. I am running Linux with i40 driver version 2.8.43. I upgraded the NVM on the card to 7.00. I am not getting the card to link up, which I suspect is due to it being set into 4x10GE mode instead of 1x40GE. When I run the QSFP+ configuration utility I get the "Invalid image on the adapter error". To the best of my knowledge what I purchased was a non-OEM Intel XL710. Please see outputs from the different tools below:

Hello PSala6,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

Just to double check if this is an OEM or Intel Retail version of adapter, can you share the markings which can be seen on the white sticker of the adapter. If this is an OEM version, they have customized the firmware and other features of the adapter to provide improved operation on the computer. The NVM Update Package from Intel is only intended for Intel Retail adapters.

You may refer to this link on where to find the PBA number

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000007022/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html

Pleas also confirm if you've downloaded the NVM Package thru this link:

Looking forward to your response.

Confirmed that is the address of the NVM I used.

I have attached a photo of the NIC.

Hello PSala6,

Thank you for the reply.

We have checked the photo that you provided and confirmed that this is an OEM version of Intel Ethernet Adapter. It is recommended to contact your place of purchase/manufacturer for the NVM package for your adapter as our NVM package are intended for Intel Retail adapters only. OEM NIC vendor customized firmware to adapt to the changes made on their NIC, thus they are in best position to provide the firmware so that you don’t lose features or customizations.

Please visit this link for the List of Supported Retail Intel® Ethernet Adapters. Mentioned on the website that if the PBA number of your adapter isn't listed, it's an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or LAN on motherboard (LOM) adapter. We don't support OEM nor LOMs.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005612/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html

Please let us know once you've contacted your place of purchase/manufacturer.

Looking forward to your response.

Hello PSala6,

Good day!

You might also want to try the latest version of QCU and check if it could be of help.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25851/Intel-QSFP-Configuration-Utility-Linux-

If it still does not work on QCU, try out the EPCT.

Let us know if the above information helped to fix the problem.

Looking forward to your response.
