XL710 qda2 - link down - no matter what?

Hi

I'm new with that NIC

I'm trying to create a loop from one interface to the other - XL710 - qda2

The link are down

I actually connected a cable between them - Do I need a special cable to that?

I've manage to that on our former NIC

using SFP+

What I'm missing over here?

ifconfig

Hi Yossi.varman,

Thank you for posting in Wired Communities. Just to double check your setup here:

1) Are you connecting the first port on the XL710-QDA2 to the second port on the same XL710-QDA2 or

2) Connecting one port on XL710-QDA2 to port one of another XL710-QDA2?

3) You mentioned you are using SFP+ cable, please refer to the list of

validated "QSFP+" cable for XL710-QDA2

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006051/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html

Thanks,

Hi

Sharon

I'm using the same NIC - just connect the two ports together.

I've tried it with your similar NIC - the one 4 SFP+

I'm not using Intel cables.

I'm using other comany cable - the cable worked before.

I even tried to connect the other comany NIC to the QDA2 - and there is no link.

Is there a procedure to make the link up??

I thought that it suppose to work like a regular ethernet NIC

Yossi

Hi Yossi.varman,

Thank you for the information. We recommend to use validated cable on our XL710-QDA2 network card, please refer to the validated cable

listed on our website https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006051/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html

Can you clarify what you mean that " I've tried it with your similar NIC - the one 4 SFP+"

Regards,

Hi Yossi.varman,

Thank you for the information. Please use Intel supported cable for Intel retail version of XL710-QDA2 network card. For Silicom PE310G417, this is an OEM network card which OEM vendor might have made changes on the network card to adapt to their design which is beyond our support, the cable you used might be compatible to the Silicom network card you have.

Hi Yossi.varman,

Please try to check also if you have configure with the same speed/duplex setting? As stated on our website "When two Intel® Ethernet Converged Network Adapter XL710 Series QSFP+ devices are connected back to back, we recommend configuring them with the same Speed/Duplex setting. Results may vary with mixed speed settings.

Please feel free to update me if this works for you.

Thanks,

Sharon T
