Hello,
According to intel® ethernet controller e810 — feature support matrix document (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/content-details/630155/intel-ethernet-controller-e810-feature-support-matrix.html) on page 16 , "virtualization section"
the feature "IEEE 1588 - Precision Time Protocol (PTP) support in VF" is marked as supported since version 26.4 (no limitation)
I have been trying to use this feature, but could never get HW timestamping capabilities on VF (using: ethtool -T ...)
- was anyone able to use this feature?
- are there any know limitations?

Hello B_Y,
Thank you for your answer, I also realized that I'm missing some information: I'm using a Linux VM guest (kernel rt 5.15), hosted on VMware ESXi 8.0U2. I'm using the latest ESXi drivers for Ice according to VMware compatibility matrix.
When I pass PF as passthrough to the VM, there is no problem, I'm able to use hardware time stamping.
Problem occurs when passing VF to the VM, and only software time stamping is applicable.
I tried to update the ice and iavf drivers in my VM , but I did not see any change in behavior, VF still does not have hardware time stamping ability.
Regarding page 73, the "Adapter User guide" , as I understand PROset is a control program for Windows, so use of it is not relevant for me.
Best Regards,
Moshe Sasson

Hello @MosheSasson ,
The E810 can support PTPv2.1 version.
Perhaps, we need following information to investigate further, thank you in advance:
- At a command prompt type and attach its output here:
a) "ethtool -T <eth port>", where <eth port> is the port identifier
b) "ethtool -i <eth port>"
- SSU log: Help Guide for the Intel® System Support Utility- Download the Intel® System Support Utility for Linux* operating system
- Any other log showing the error
