how to clear out ALL NIC devices, registry info, and start clean?

My desktop has both an onboard Intel 82556DM-2 and an Intel Pro/1000 MT NIC. I'm using the Pro/1000 MT to VLAN to multiple networks. At some point it had problems (the VLANned NICs stopped working and showed up in Network Properties as Pro/1000 GT!).

I need to know how to clear out ALL the NIC devices that my PC knows about (including stranded virtual nics) and the registry information, so that I can start clean WITHOUT reinstalling Windows (2008 Server, btw). Can anyone help?

Try the method outline in http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/CS-029916.htm this posting and see if it helps. Start at step A and work your way down. You might need to remove the phantom adapters first.

Good luck!
