[i350-T4] PPS output

Hi,

I have considered to use the network adapter I350-T4 to test our PTP software. It seems that traffic somehow works, but I could not find the pin used as PPS output on the network adapter to measure accuracy of synchronized devices.

I also tried this on network adapter I210, there is an socket with 6 pins, and I have attached to one of them (configured in Linux as SDP) and I was able to measure the PPS signal of both devices connected together.

So my question is, where can I find the physical pin on network adapter I350-T4 to configure them as PPS output and I can attach them (similar situation as in case of I210)?

I have found the datasheet to the ethernet controller I350, there is support of SDP pins, but there is no schematic.
The images of the card are attached.

Thank you

Hi Vikas,

System: Debian 6.1.128-1
HW:  dell 3960 + Intel adapter I350-T4 (added separately)
You can find all product identification (serial number) on the picture at my first message. I do not have more numbers or details as you can find on the picture.

Our scenario contains 2 devices connected together. On both devices is running ptp4l application to synchronize HW 1588 clock.
1. PC with network adapter I210

2. Dell server with network adapter I350-T4

The clock is synchronized, I can see it in the system. But I need to know the accuracy of synchronization in nano-sec, by measurement both 1PPS output signals.

Most of the network adapter (1588 timer capable) are having 1PPS output or SDP (Software defined pins) where the role of the pin should by configured in runtime by OS. By 2 commands in Linux I am able to configure SDP pin as 1PPS output on the network adapter:
./testptp -d /dev/ptp0 -L 0,2   //sets the first SDP (SDP_0) pin as 1PPS output

./testptp -d /dev/ptp0 -p 1000000000 -w 4095   //set the frequency and with of period of result signal as 1PPS

I210 have 6-pin header, there are all SDP pins located, so my oscilloscope is attached here.

My problem is, that I have no idea where the physical SDP ports are located on the adapter I350-T4, there is no pin header.
That is what I am asking for, to send to me part of schematic or picture, where can I find the SDP pins to be able do the measurement.

I saw the documentation so as interface diagram, but it still do not telling me, where the pins are located on the adapter.

Thanks for your time.
Tomas.

Hi Tomas789,

Upon checking internally, this information is included in our design checklist and reference design for I350. Both are available on RDC, however, you will need access as both require NDA.

We recommend you sign up for RDC access using your CNDA number below link:

Hello,
I am sorry for late response, but I was busy. I sign up in RDC and I am able to find the reference design. But I need to know the real position on the PCB, where I can find the PPS signal, which slots.

Thanks.
BR,
Tomas.
