environment:
Redhat 7.4
ixgbe, ixgbevf (82599es ethernet controller)
is it possible to classify the incoming traffic solely based on vlan than on mac. (ie from pf to vf only based on vlan and ignoring mac address)

Hi Hari_tadiparthi,
If you are pertaining to filtering option in SR-IOV layer 2 sorting, this can be
based on destination MAC address or VLAN tag. You may refer to page 12 of 82599 datasheet below for more information:
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/networking/82599-sr-iov-driver-companion-guide.html
Hope the above information help.
Regards,
Sharon T

It seems the ixgbe or the 82599 does not support the requested unicast promiscous mode for VFs.
had to find a better NIC
