Hello HIT-S,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

For me to further understand the issue, please provide the following details:

  1. What is your OS?
  2. What is the driver version used?
  3. Is it working fine before?
  4. Can you provide any data of the ipv6-Multicast flood?
  5. Are you using on-board NIC's?
  6. What is the model of your board or system?

If you have questions, please let us know.

Best regards,

Hello Mike,

we use Lenovo M900t, M910t, M920t, L470, L480, L490, T480 and T490 Models with onboard-NICs. The Problem Is only with Windows 10 (1709 - 1903). With Linux (Ubuntu / Debian) there is no Problem. The first models came with the 22.3 driver. Lenovo it self delivers the Computers today with a Version from 04.10.2018 (12.18.8.4) We tried all drivers from 22.10 to 24.2 (16.08.2019).

an example for a WireShark sniff:

each of this packages contains:

There was no before. It was just sometimes, that a switch-port was shut down, but in the last couple of month, the amount of Multicast-Storms is rising.

In 2013/14 there was a similar Problem with the I217 Chips. By then we just putted other NICs in the PCs. At this time we had about 150 PCs and like 50 where affected.

After a year or so, Intel delivered a new Driver and the Problem was gone.

At this Time many People complaint about the issue.

Today I feel like I'm the first.

Thank you very much for your quick response.

Best regards,

Philipp L.

Hello HIT-S,

Thank you for the quick response. Since you tried the latest drivers from us which is only generic drivers that we can recommend. At this point, have you tried contacting Lenovo for further support since the NIC's are all on-board?

If you have questions, please let us know.

Hello Mike,

we have opened a case with Lenovo but till now have had no response. We are still having severe network floods (Mutlicast Listener Report). They come everyday. It is hard to believe that we are the only ones with this problem.

Kind regards

Hello HIT-S,

I understand. However, OEM and on-board NIC's may have altered specifications and features and the manufacturer should provide the appropriate driver since they made some changes. Since just like what you said, you are having this issue, it is best to communicate the issue with Lenovo.

If you have questions, please let us know.
