Hello,

Installed a new x710-da4 in an Ubuntu 16.04 chassis. Updated the firmware. the lspci -vv shows the LnkSta shows  'Speed 2.5GT/s, Width x1'. I have changed slots and machines but the LnkSta and LnkCap show the same info. 1st machine has PCIe 2.0 slots 2nd machine tried has PCie 3.0 slots.

Nics from other vendor show correct LnkSta.

Hello ChaiTea,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

For us to further check the issue, please provide the following details.

  1. Can you send a photo of your network card focusing on the markings on both sides of the card?
  2. Can you share the link where you downloaded your latest driver?
  3. Can you share the model of the other NIC's that you used that showed the correct settings?

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Best regards,

Hello Michael,

Thank you for getting back to me.

Updated the driver from here:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/4237/Ethernet-Administrative-Tools-for-Intel-Network-Adapters?product=83965

I will not have physical access to the machine for a week, but I will try to to get the pictures you want asap.

The Card is definitely 710-da4. is there another way to ascertain the information you want from the markings?

Here the dump of the ethtool and lspci after the driver and firmware update.

llo ChaiTea,

Thank you for the quick reply.

How about the box of the card? The reason why we are requesting for the markings of the card is for us to validate the card.

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Hello,
I must apologize. Looks like I got the model number wrong. The card is x722-da4. The issue is still the same. I have attached the markings from the box.
Hope it helps.
Thanks.

Hello ChaiTea,

I am checking the SSU logs and I cannot see the X722-DA4. Can you confirm if this is the card installed?

The network card present on the SSU is Intel Corporation 82576 Gigabit Network Connection.

Hello ChaiTea,

While checking the SSU, I just noticed that cards Firmware version is "5.15 0x8000275e 1.2829.0". Here is our recommendation:

  1. Please try updating the firmware to the latest version which is 8.15. Here is the download link: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24769/Non-Volatile-Memory-NVM-Update-Utility-for-Intel-Ethernet-Network-Adapter-700-Series?product=139351
  2. Please provide the model of your board and check if the firmware of the board is also updated. If the board's firmware is not yet updated, kindly update it to the latest.

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Hello Michael,

Is firmware version '5.15 0x8000275e 1.2829.0' not correct? I had done this step before and shows that as the latest. I ran following again today. Notice that it shows this card as up to date.

Hello ChaiTea,

Than you for the update. Is there someone onsite who can check the card physically and get the markings? We need to further check the markings to identify the exact model of the card because the link that we provided is the latest firmware. And also, please provide the details of your motherboard and check if the firmware is also update.

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Michael,

I haven't had a chance to access the machine recently. I will try to get the picture you need, but are you suggesting the PCIe speed configuration varies across the different "models" for the card? Also can you confirm the firmware I have on the card is correct, please refer to the logs I have provided earlier.

With regards to the machine motherboard, I will try but am not sure if I get you those details. I can tell you that I have tried the same card on two different chassis and both show the same behavior.

Chai.

Hello ChaiTea,

I will countercheck everything once I have the markings of the card and the details of your board. All of the details that we have are from the logs, however when you tried to update the firmware, it gives you a different message. That is why we we are gathering more details.

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Michael,

Can you elaborate on

"however when you tried to update the firmware, it gives you a different message."

I am not sure what you mean by different message?

Is this not correct firmware for the card?

firmware-version: 5.15 0x8000275e 1.2829.0

Also the update utility is identifying the card correctly

Hello ChaiTea,

I mean you mentioned on your post that "I ran following again today. Notice that it shows this card as up to date." That is why we will check everything and start from validating the card. I already mentioned this before that the name of the card is different from the logs.

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Hi Michael,

Let me reset the conversation. As I noted earlier when I posed the pictures of the box that I was mistaken about the card I am using. If I have a way to  change the title of the thread I will do so.

1. I thought I had the x710-da4 card, but that was before I looked at the box more carefully. The supplier had sent me x722-da4 card. So that is what I have installed.

2. The issue as narrated in the original post still applies. The card is advertised as PCIeGen3 but it is getting negotiated with 'LnkCap: Port #0, Speed 2.5GT/s, Width x1'

3. Firmware was update initially and hence shows up-to-date on later attempts. All the utilities are identifying the card correctly 722-da4.

thanks

Chai.

Hello ChaiTea,

We do understand that, however if you are going to check the link that I provided. It says there that is the latest Firmware for the network card but you said it shows as the latest. We are trying to investigate the cause of this so that we can move forward with the issue. I also want to let you know that this issue and case has been brought to the attention of our engineers. But before we can move forward, I need to confirm that everything is updated including the Ethernet cards firmware and the boards firmware too.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for the explanation. I was under impression that 8.15 version shown in the link you sent is the version of the the NVMupdate utility. I guess you are suggesting that the firmware version should be 8.15.

I was able to get access to the machine for a little while. I have attached the picture you wanted. I also restructured other cards in the system. I two have two different Intel cards in it. Th other cards an I350 and a X520, show expected lnkspeed, but not the x722. I have attached log from ssu and output of lspci

Also noticed that the nvmupdate utility shows the bus-id incorrectly (shows in decimal) =>
