Hi,
In UG-HDMI 2016.05.02 (AS WELL AS LATER REVISIONS!), section "Source Interfaces",
following ports are not properly explained:
1) mode (0=DVI, 1=HDMI).
What's the difference between these two mode settings, how does the setting affect
the IP operation, and when is this setting critical?
2) ctrl[6*N-1:0].
Because always with Arria10 N=2, (2 symbols per clock), it's 6 control bits per pixel.
However, it is unclear how 6 bits map into only 4 bits (= 2bits x 2 colors (Green, Red) ),
whether 2bits are ignored and which bits of the six are they
(since Blue already carries the HSYNC and VSYNC it doesn't need control bits),
which bit is C0 or C1 and of what color, and whether the IP will operate just fine
if all these 12bits are simply 0...000 ?
Thanks.

Hi Itay Sidar,
Apologize for the delayed response as we encounter some difficulty.
Regarding to your question 1), yes, there are 2 modes available. Both modes have their own set of parameter and algorithm that works differently, for DVI, it only transmit video, while for HDMI, it handles both video and sound.
This selection of input source will depend on customer's application, if your input source only require video, then DVI would be the setting that need to be set, if you require both video and sound, then HDMI would be the right setting.
The mode here is for different input source to HDMI sink core; 0--DVI; 1---HDMI.
The ctrl is for DVI input mode, if you wish to use HDMI input mode, you need to set to 6'd0.
Referring to question 2), there are 6 bits, 4 bits are used for hsync and vsync, and the remaining is unused so we set it as reserved.
You may refer to the HDMI specification documentation under Chapter 5- Signaling and Encoding for more detail information.
Hope this answers your question.
Thank you.
