Implementing a DVI IP core

I currently have a video board design that successfully uses the Texes Instruments TFP401 and TFP410 as DVI input and output devices. These devices are then interfaces to my Stratix IV FPGA.

I want to know if I could have used IP instead of these devices to save on cost and board real estate. I would connect the DVI transmitter connector and the DVI receiver connector to the FPGAs transceivers (AC-coupling of course). Then I would implement the necessary logic to decode the DVI video.

Can anyone respond if this is possible or not?

Thanks
