altera_parallel_flash_loader_0 vs altera-parallel_flash_loader_2

Hi,

We currently using the CPLD (Max V) to configure FPGA Cyclone V

Current platform used generating a separate Config module using altera_parallel_flash_loader_0 for FPGA Configuration only / Targeted Parallel Flash: CFI Parallel Flash FPPx16 & a separate  altera_parallel_flash_loader_2 for flash programming only.

Like to combine the 2 (ie FPGA configuration + Flash Programming) using just one parallel flash loader.

What is the difference between the altera parallel flash loader (altera_parallel_flash_loader) and the altera parallel flash loader II (altera_parallel_flash_loader_2)  IPs?

Is the altera_parallel_flash_loader II IP a more up to date one?

Can I use the altera_parallel_flash_loader II IP one or it doesn't matter which one we use to do both FPGA configuration + Flash Programming ?

altera_parallel_flash_loader vs altera_parallel_flash_loader_2 :

The Parallel Flash loader II (altera_parallel_flash_loader_2) when try to select it for Flash programming + FPGA Configuration the only Configuration schemes it gave me were AvST x8, AvST x16, AvSTx32. There were no other options to select from like the Parallel Flash loader (altera_parallel_flash_loader) one did.

The  altera_parallel_flash_loader one was able to select FPPx16, so decided to use this IP to do both Flash Programming + FPGA Configuration.

Please comment here.

Regards,

Kevin

Hi Knug,

For Cyclone V device configuration, you can use Parallel Flash Loader IP only.

Parallel Flash Loader II IP uses Avalon-stream which supported only by Stratix 10 devices.

Parallel Flash Loader IP can be used for the flash programming as well.

Regards.
