Can I use OpenCL to program DE1 FPGA development board without a paid license

I am a student and I want to buy the DE1 FPGA development board. I want to know if I will still need any paid license to use Intel OpenCL tools to program it. My projects are only for academic research.

OpenCL doesn't require any license for all Altera (Intel) FPGA boards.

@GRN is correct, starting from Quartus v17.1, you don't need a separate license for OpenCL; however, OpenCL does not work with Quartus Lite and you will need a license for Quartus Prime Standard to be able to place and route your OpenCL design.

Hi HRZ,

Anyway, any customer can download Quartus Pro with hld (OpenCL) component and use aoc compiler without any licence for both Linux and Windows systems
