Cyclone V GT FPGA Development Kit Flash

I bought a Cyclone V GT FPGA Development Kit for digital control, which only needed to use HSMC interface and ETH to communicate with the computer, but I encountered many difficult problems in the development project.

1. The sof file generated by Quartus compilation can be downloaded to FPGA, and can run normally. However, I tried to download jic file to EPCQ256 Flash, but failed. I downloaded the MAX V pof file that allows the configuration of EPCQ256 by referring to the advice given by Intel official website. However, it is still not possible to cure jic project files with quartus programmer. I would like to ask you what effective method is available to cure project files into Flash to realize automatic project loading after power-on.

2. When I tried to program Flash, I mistakenly used Quartus to erase 1Gb CFI flash on the development board. I followed the operation on the official Intel website to restore the factory Settings of Flash. However, after the restore.sh file is selected on the NIOS command line window, Empty flash content cannot be programmed or verified is displayed, and the factory Settings cannot be restored. I see that the official documentation mentions that Flash has important information about boards, and I'm not sure if this will have much impact. My experiment needs only FPGA and HSMC interface for control, and Ethernet communication with PC. I am not sure if the erasure of information in Flash will affect the Ethernet communication, if it affects the function, can I send the board back for repair?

Hello,

Can you rebuild the image from factory recovery resource using NIOS flash command as described in the notes below?

I tried the method you provided, and there was an error at step 7, with the Nios command shell saying "Empty flash content cannot be programmed or verified". Is there any other way to write a program to EPCQ256 flash?

Hello,

Sorry for the delay. I'm still in the midst of the discussion regarding this with the internal teams. Unfortunately, it takes longer than usual heard. I will plan on letting you know as soon as I learn more information. Really appreciate your patience.

Warm Regards,

Hi,

Sorry for the delay. To resolve this error message, follow these steps:

Open your project in SOPC Builder and double click on CPU to open the Nios Processor Window. In Core Nios tab, select the CFI flash memory (e.g.: ext_flash) device from the Reset Vector Memory pull-down menu. Click on Finish. Regenerate the SOPC Builder system, then recompile the Quartus project.

Hope that helps and do let me know if I can assist you any further.

Best regards,

Nazrul Naim

Excuse me, is the method you mentioned for resetting CFI flash or for downloading sof files into Flash? I have written AD/DA and Ethernet communication projects without relying on MAX V and Flash, but the projects will be lost after a power outage. I am eager to download the project to Flash and load the project at boot. Is it possible to download the project to Flash according to your suggestions? And I can't find CFI Flash in the Reset Vector Memory menu, can you provide some more detailed guidance?

Hello,

I'm sorry for the delay. Regarding this issue, do you open the project using the SOPC builder as mentioned in previous comment?
