Programming of EP2C20F484C6N & EP2C50F672C8N - Both from the Cyclone II family

Hi,

In my workplace, I have inherited (need to support and develop) a product that uses two FPGA's (EP2C20F484C6N & EP2C50F672C8N).

This product and it's IP was designed by another manufacturer >10 Years ago.

We have purchased this product and it's IP (schematics, Altium files, source code) and now I need to do some mods to the firmware. I believe I have the source code?

The original manufacturer/designer has now gone out of business.

Unfortunately, I have never worked with FPGA's before. I have significant experience with other embedded devices (Zilog, Atmel Microchip, TI) and compilers, languages (ASM, C, Pascal) etc.

At the moment, we program the devices from a command line script and a USB-Blaster (ten pin header).

Where do I start?

Is there an IDE (Quartus Lite ??) on the Intel website that I should use and if so what version?

Thank you for any help.

Neil.

Hi Neil, Good day to you. Kindly refer Cyclone II FPGA support link below. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/programmable/products/fpga/cyclone-series/cyclone-ii/support.html The latest supported Quartus for Cyclone II is Quartus II Web Edition 13.0sp1. http://fpgasoftware.intel.com/devices/ http://fpgasoftware.intel.com/13.0sp1/?edition=web&platform=windows&download_manager=dlm3 For your information, Cyclone II devices are mature devices. you're recommended to use the newest cyclone devices for your new design. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/programmable/cyclone-series.html At the meantime, you can subscribe to our customer notification mailing list at below link so that you can be notified when an Altera device is going to be discontinued. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/programmable/support/quality-and-reliability/pcns-and-advisories.html#pdn
