BittWare 3FTV/S4-3U-VPX Commercial and Rugged Altera Stratix IV GX 3U VPX Board

BittWare 3FTV/S4-3U-VPX Commercial and Rugged Altera Stratix IV GX 3U VPX Board with 2 channels 14-bit, 250 MSPS ADC and 2 channels 16-bit, 800 MSPS DAC Example

BittWare 3FTV/S4-3U-VPX Commercial and Rugged Altera Stratix IV GX 3U VPX Board with 2 channels 14-bit, 250 MSPS ADC and 2 channels 16-bit, 800 MSPS DAC Example

BittWare’s S4-3U-VPX (S43X) is a commercial or rugged 3U VPX card based on the high-density, low-power Altera Stratix IV GX FPGA. The Stratix IV GX is designed specifically for serial I/O-based applications, creating a completely flexible, reconfigurable VPX board. BittWare’s ATLANTiS FrameWork and the FINe Host/Control Bridge greatly simplify application development and integration of this powerful board. The board provides a configurable 25-port SerDes interface supporting a variety of protocols, including Serial RapidIO, PCI Express, and 10 GigE. The board also features 10/100/1000 Ethernet, and up to 4 GB of DDR3 SDRAM. Providing enhanced flexibility is the VITA 57-compliant FMC site, which supports 10 SerDes, 60 LVDS pairs, and 6 clocks.

  • VITA 57 FMC site for processing and I/O expansion
  • High density Altera Stratix IV GX supported by BittWare ATLANTiS™ FrameWork for FPGAs
  • BittWare FINe™ Host/Control Bridge provides control plane processing and interface
  • Fully connected to VPX: GigE, 15 SerDes, 32 LVDS
  • Additional I/O: 10/100 Ethernet, RS-232, JTAG

BittWare’s 3FTV/S4-3U-VPX board is used in this project to demonstrate the integration of BittWare’s S4-3U-VPX board and 4DSP’s FMC150 FMC module. In this example project, several BittWare building blocks are used to create a functional system. At the heart of this project, BittWare’s ATLANTiS™ FrameWork was used to create an FPGA project that takes streaming data from the ADC on the FMC150, and transfers the data into external DDR3 memory. Using BittWare’s ADC Performance Monitor, running on a Host PC, the data is then read out of external DDR3 memory and processes the data using window filtering, FFT and statistical analysis functions. The data is then plotted using BittWare’s DSP Graph utility, which is part of BittWare’s BittWorks development tools.

ATLANTiS™ FrameWork Components Used in this example:

  • RxDDIO Interface for ADC Channel Data
  • DMA Controller
  • Switch
  • Arbiter
  • Slave Window (Host access into DDR3)
  • DDR3 Controller
  • SPI Controller
  • Register Bank
