My usage is not games, but I think you are the best suited to ask.

I just use discord videocalls and teams.

I thought of buying an i5 12500 or and i5 12400.

Are they both OK? I don't want one of them to run like an airplane, so that's not an "OK" case for me.

Thanks

Hello Mattew,

Thank you for replying to us. Since you might be using your system for business, you might want to take advantage of the i5 12500 CPU, which has Intel Vpro technology. It also has a higher CPU base core frequency and max turbo frequency, which means you will have a faster CPU in case you will be using intensive apps in the future.

If you will only use Discord and teams on the system, you can choose the i5 12400 instead. This comparison table might also be helpful to you. Intel® CoreTM i5-12400 vs. Intel® CoreTM i5-12500.

By the way, I'm sorry to hear about your laptop. Would you like to try and troubleshoot this system? If you do, you may share with us the SSU logs. I do want to set your expectations. Since this is an OEM (Branded Laptop) original equipment manufacturer device, please take into consideration that our support may be limited since we are not familiar with the technology, settings, customizations, custom drivers, and features that the OEM has designed and installed in your system. Nevertheless, I will do my best to assist you with your concern.

Feel free to send a reply here in this post. I will be waiting!

Hello Mattew,

Thank you for posting in the communities. To make sure we consider all factors before making the decision, let me ask you some questions:

Is the discord and teams that you are using for businesses or for personal use?

When you mention you don't want one of them to run like an airplane, could you please tell me more about this?

I will be waiting for your reply.

For business and personal too. When I use them for business we are in few anyways. I'm currently using a good 7 year's old laptop with Nvidia and I don't recall which embedded Cpu. When I open a discord videocalls it starts crying for help. I'm using Linux, so there are no strange background processes I'm not aware of running in background

I didn't know about total memory encryption.
I think this will be my reason of choosing 12500. Security requirements are quite strict and this could help.

About my laptop: it's just slowly dying. 2 years ago Bluetooth drivers fried. This month it was the wireless driver. It's quite old and I used it in the past 5 years (even if it has 7+ years).

Thanks for the help.
Have a nice day.
