"Please update your Intel Driver" problem when trying to play

When I try to play certain games like Hogwarts Legacy or the Witcher 3 a message pops up which states my intel driver version is old and that I need to renew it. I have done that several times and I'm pretty sure i have the newest version. After that, if I click accept it'll just freeze on the loading screen. I honestly have no idea what to do. It's not like these games never worked, they ran perfectly fine until maybe a week or two ago, when I updated the driver with the Intel assistant, and it stopped working. Going back to the old version may work, but does someone know how to play with the newest version with no problems? Thanks

I'm currently using the 31.0.101.5186 version of the Intel iris xe graphics.

From the symptoms that you are experiencing, we still need additional information to figure out why the Witcher 3 and Hogwarts Legacy is experiencing random freezes. As such, please share the following details: 


  1. It would really help us if we can get more information about your system. Please download and run our Intel® System Support Utility located at this link: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18377/intel-system-support-utility-for-windows.html.
  2. After running it, you will be given an option to save the logs to a text file, please do so and attach the file on your reply.
  3. Is there any error message showing up when the freezing occurs? 
  4. What is the driver version of the "older version that you are referring to?" 
  5. Are you experiencing any issues when using the older version? 
  6. Have you taken any troubleshooting steps?
