Arc A770 coil whine after driver update

I own an AsRock Arc A770 Challenger 16GB card and today I installed the 31.0.101.5074 drivers. My vBIOS version number went from 20.0.1063.1 to 20.0.1063 (isn't that a step backwards?). After the update my card is whining/buzzing under load. The worst coil whine I have ever heard from a card. I wanted to see if I can dampen the noise if I touch the back plate and I noticed that the plate was too hot to touch (GPU and VRAM temp is normal). Don't know if that's normal just thought I mention it.

Hello interocitor,

Thank you for posting in the Intel Communities. We will help you with the coil whine issue that is present after updating the driver to version 31.0.101.5074.

To better help you on this matter, we would like to ask for the following details:

  • Since the issue started after updating the Graphics driver, is the issue present if you try to roll back the driver?
  • You mention that the graphics card is hot to the touch, but GPU and VRAM temperatures are normal. Do you have more information about the exact temperature reported by the card (you can use the Arc Control Telemetry data to check the information)?
  • We would like to check more details about your system. Provide us with the following system reports:

• Intel®️ System Support Utility (Intel®️ SSU)

  • Open the application and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel®️ SSU will take you to the "Summary View."
    • Click on the menu where it says: "Summary" to change it to "Detailed View."
    • To save your scan: click "Next"; then "Save."

Intel® Graphics Command Center:

  • Open the Intel Graphics Command Center
    • Navigate to the Support tab
    • Select System Diagnostic
    • Click Generate Report
    • Select Save and name the output file.

Finally, here are some recommendations that you can try to reduce the sound intensity of the Coil Whine:

  • Capping the FPS to the refresh rate of the monitor or lower
  • Enabling V-Sync
  • Double-checking the power supply efficacy
  • Reduce GPU throttling/overclocking
