BSOD Windows 7 SP1 x64

BSOD on Resume from Standby on Windows 7 SP1 x64 with latest driver 10.18.10.4885. Windows 7 was only installed on 30/08/2018 so it is only 3 weeks old.

Video Bios: 2132.0

A desktop AC powered PC.

Motherboard Asus P87ZZ-V 2104 Premium with 2104 Bios with most windows updates except for the CPU flaw fixes. No system bios microcode fixes for that either. I am using the Intel onboard graphics with Displayport and Thunderbolt-->HDMI outputs to dual inputs on my monitor a LG 24GM77. I need two inputs because Intel graphics tends to loose one display, especially when the displays are running at different refresh rates ie 60Hz (Thunderbolt->HMDI) & 120Hz (Displayport). I need the other display to attempt to fix it or shutdown. These monitor inputs are currently running in clone mode with identical refresh rates 60Hz. I have not lost Displayport while running in cloned mode at 60Hz.

Only Intel graphics being used.

CPU i7-3770K running at default.

2x8GB DDR3 Crucial Ballistics

Please note that I only updated the driver a few days back after downloading the latest driver, updated from 15.33.45.4653 which I installed immediately after installing windows.

Why is the new driver declared as 10.18.10.4885 when the older version and the download page shows v15.xxxxxxx? The driver I installed from shows 15.33.45.4653 which I added to the filename.

The download page shows a MD5 file hash of 6bb802607cad2df194afa745b9cef9b0 which does match the hash for the driver that I installed. Therefore I am certain it is correct. It is meant for 3rd gen Intel CPU's.

The dmp file does show Intel HD Graphics Drivers for Windows 8(R) although I am using windows 7 Sp1.

Hello lister.of.smeg,

Thank you for joining this Intel Community.

If the blue screen started happening after updating the graphics driver, you can perform a clean install of the graphics driver in case old drivers are causing system conflicts.

1.Disconnect your unit from the internet.

2.Uninstall both the Intel Graphics driver and the Intel Display audio driver. To do this, please follow the steps on the link below under these sections:

-Uninstalling the Intel Graphics Driver via the Device Manager Method

-Uninstalling the Intel® Display Audio Driver or the Intel® HDMI Audio Driver via the Device Manager Method.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005598/graphics-drivers.html

3.Restart your computer. Go to the device manager and check if Windows installed another version of the graphics driver. If it does, please remove it and restart your computer one more time. Repeat the process until you get the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

4.Once you do, please proceed with the clean install of the latest graphics driver.

5.Once the latest driver has been installed, you may enable the internet connection again.

If the issue persists, please attach the BSOD stop code/picture.

In addition, the graphics driver numbering will change depending on the graphics driver version you are installing. Please check the following support link to get more information about this.

The latest driver does not work!!

I did all that you suggested and following re-installation my display cut out every time I booted. No display inputs, of which there are two connected to this PC, would provide a display because my monitor was in power saving mode.

The latest driver is totally unusable. I have had to reboot into safe mode and remove the driver. I am now back with the original earlier driver 15.33.45.4653 which is working and gets me into windows.

Does this mean that no newer driver has been tested on Windows 7? I am stuck with this older driver from here on? This windows install is only 3 weeks old so it is unlikely to be broken.

Are there any working solutions?

Hello lister.of.smeg,

You can also try installing this Intel® Graphics Driver.

If installing this graphics driver version does not resolve this issue. Please provide a picture of the BSOD to continue troubleshooting it.

My PC has BSOD on 26th, Wednesday night, before I installed the new driver, and it was the Intel driver which caused it. It only seems to happen when my display is in standby mode which means I do not see what happens. Afterwards it seems to reboot very quickly. After reboot into windows I can view the BSOD report with nirsoft BlueScreenView.

I have uninstalled 2 updates, kernel mode and user mode driver updates 1.11 after that last BSOD. I have also altered the auto reboot after BSOD to prevent it from auto rebooting. Hopefully I will be able to see the BSOD providing my monitor will wake up.

The file version is showing the new driver even though that was not installed when this BSOD happened. For some reason it is still showing the driver as being for windows 8 when I am using Windows 7 Sp1.

Hello lister.of.smeg,

Thank you for your reply.

-Does this issue happen if you test one of the configurations recommended by your motherboard manufacturer?

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P8Z77V/specifications/ P8Z77-V

It is worth noting that a straight-through connection with a single cable is always desired.

Since updating the driver to the latest that you linked on the 27th September, at least so far, there has not been any further problems with BSOD's.

My motherboard maker does not provide any useful information on configurations and their drivers have not been updated in many years.

For now it seems to be working. I will update if I experience any more problems.

I am the starter of this topic, the altered username must be because of forum updates or something like that.

I have re-installed windows 7 after replacing the motherboard with an identical but working model. The drivers have been installed including Intel HD4000_win64_15.33.47.5059 and the BSOD has been happening again like documented previously ie when my monitor goes into power saving mode and when I attempt to wake it using the keyboard caps lock key. It was happening every time the monitor entered standby and I have tried a very old (2012) Asus driver which works correctly without any BSOD. I have uninstalled the older driver and done a driver clean before installing the latest Intel driver. Following that my PC BSOD when my monitor went into standby and I attempted to wake it. Further testing following the BSOD have not resulted in any further BSOD's.

A minidump has been included.

It is still showing as windows 8 rather than windows 7.
