Black screen/Render issue on Iris Xe with Marvel's Spiderman 2

This is regarding the known rendering issue on Iris Xe that is causing black screen bugs in Marvel's Spiderman 2. I am requesting Intel to fix this problem as this issue does not seem to be due to Iris Xe not meeting the minimum requirements of the game. Additionally, this bug is branching as far as not even rendering the main menu of the Marvel's Spiderman 2 properly, resulting in a blackish screen.

Bugs related to Iris Xe in other games like Ghost of Tsushima, The Last Of Us Part 2, and Marvel's spiderman remastered have been fixed before and there is a potential for fixing the black screen/render issue in Marvel's Spiderman 2 as well. So again, along with other people, I am requesting this issue to be fixed, because, keeping other demanding games in context like the ones listed above, Iris Xe does have the potential.

  • CPU: Intel 11th Gen Core i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz 

  • GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics (integrated)

  • RAM: 16 GB (15.7 GB usable)

  • Storage: NVMe SSD (952 GB)

  • OS: Windows 11, 64-bit

Hi @LAZZ,

 

The Intel Iris Xe graphics is not equivalent to discrete graphics cards. Discrete graphics cards, such as those from NVIDIA or AMD, have dedicated memory (VRAM) and more powerful processing capabilities, which allow them to handle demanding tasks like high-end gaming. Previous disposition on this, remain firm which is to contact the game developer directly for detailed information on the specific requirements that need to be met. However, please share a sample of the graphical issue you're encountering so I can review it internally and check if a driver fix is possible for this concern.

I am fully aware of the official hardware requirements for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and understand that the Iris Xe is not equivalent to discrete GPUs. However, this issue seems to go beyond performance limitations and points to a driver/rendering bug.
 
 
Here’s why:

  •  Other equally demanding games (Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered) initially faced similar rendering issues on Iris Xe but were fixed through driver updates, after which they became fully playable — despite being just as, or even more, graphically demanding than Marvels Spider-Man 2.
 
  • The current bug affects Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 even in the main menu, where GPU load is minimal. This strongly suggests a rendering or driver issue rather than a raw performance bottleneck.
 
As per your request, I have attached:
 
  • A screenshot of the main menu of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, showing a bug that results in a black, texture-less screen, pointing at graphics rendering issue.

 

  • A screenshot of an in-game cutscene, with the same texture/rendering issue.

 

  • A video sample of gameplay from Marvel's Spider-Man 2 which shows the same black screen graphics render issue, despite playing at lowest graphical settings and experiencing a decent and playable 20-24 FPS

Intel’s past efforts to optimize driver support for modern games have made Iris Xe surprisingly capable, so I’m really hopeful this issue can receive a similar fix in upcoming driver updates.

I appreciate your strong interest in improving performance for this card. I’ll check internally to see what can be done regarding this ongoing issue, and explore any possible alternatives or workarounds for the game despite current limitations.

Based on our evaluation, While the game may occasionally run with certain driver versions, our checks confirm that this integrated GPU does not meet the minimum specifications required for stable performance.

 

It’s worth noting that although some users may have been able to run earlier versions or similar titles, this particular version appears to utilize newer rendering technologies that are either unsupported or unstable on the current hardware.

 

Given this, we recommend reaching out directly to the game developer to inquire whether future updates might include support for Intel Iris Xe Graphics or if any workarounds are available.

Thank you for taking the time to investigate this and for clarifying Intel’s position.

I completely understand that the Intel Iris Xe is below the official minimum requirements for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. That said, I’d like to respectfully re-emphasize that this issue appears to be a rendering/compatibility bug rather than a simple performance limitation:

 

 

  • The game fails to render textures properly even in the main menu, where GPU load should be negligible — this suggests a compatibility or shader path issue.

  • Other titles that use very similar or even more demanding rendering technologies (e.g. Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered) faced identical problems on Iris Xe at launch, which were later resolved through driver updates and were then playable 

  • Specifically, games like The Last of Us Part II and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered showed the exact same black screen render issue on Iris Xe before.

 

Even if an official solution cannot be guaranteed, having Intel’s internal team track the issue would be greatly appreciated — as it would allow affected users to know whether future driver versions might improve compatibility.
