Brightness Flickering in Photoshop with dual Graphics cards intel uhd graphics 630

I need to confirm if the display adapters (intel uhd graphics 630 and nvidia geforce gtx 1060) and the laptop screen of my recently purchased ROG 504GM is not defective.

I noticed that when I use the tools of photoshop application, the canvas and background of the canvas of my photoshop FLICKERS on the LAPTOP SCREEN. (Please refer to "image 1" attached.) Meaning everytime i click when using a tool, the brightness of the canvas and its background changes by 10% then goes back to its original brightness.

Here are my observations:

1) Whenever I transfer the photoshop window to an extended monitor, the issue is resolved. The flicker only happens when the photoshop window is ON THE LAPTOP SCREEN

2) The issue is resolved when I disable intel uhd graphics 630. (This will greatly consume the battery since the laptop will use nvidia geforce gtx 1060. I can live with this but is it safe to disable uhd graphics 630 permanently? will it damage my nvidia geforce gtx 1060 in the long run?

3) I updated the DRIVERS of intel uhd graphics 630 and nvidia geforce gtx 1060

4) I checked the FPS of a game titled "Playerunkown Undergrounds" with low settings. It reaches up to 100 FPS.

5) I tried watching HD movies on the laptop screen. It's fine.

6) I asked Adobe support and presented these facts. They said there's nothing wrong with photoshop and that I just need to tweek my graphic drivers.

7) When I enter full screen mode in photoshop, the issue resolves but i need to work with the toolbars in photoshop

I just want to confirm if I don't need to replace this unit and if this is a normal issue on the laptop screen. That there's nothing wrong with my laptop's hardware and this is only a software issue.

Can you please help me with this?

I also saw recent issues that are similar with mine:

Someone with the same issue uploaded a video with the similar issue:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYXOiz9ZVbM Photoshop CC 2018 brightness flicker - YouTube

Is this a driver issue? Do i need to worry about my new laptop's hardware?

Hello bluefrost02,

Thank you for posting.

Can you please help us to confirm if you tried our latest driver version https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28240/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10?product=126790 Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10?

From my end, you can diagnose some of your components including the Intel® graphics portion with our https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool Download Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool. But, in order to diagnose a possible issue with the screen our recommendation is to check with ASUS. Their support should be able check for hardware failures on your device, especially is this is a brand new device.

Hi Amy,

I have the 25.20.100.6326 driver and the problem still persists.

I read from this thread that we have very the same issue:

David V mentioned that there will be an update to fix this issue:

The person with the same issue said that your previous driver update (21.xxxx) solves the issue. However, I can't find the download link. Can you provide me the download link of this previous driver since it fixes the problem?

I'm still hesitant to bring my laptop to asus since I'm using my laptop for work but if the drivers won't work, I have to bring my laptop to asus.

The issue looks like this:

Thanks.

The only drivers avaible for this platform are those posted here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/126790/Intel-UHD-Graphics-630 Downloads for Intel® UHD Graphics 630

Did you try with the customized driver from ASUS? https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/GamingNB/DriverforWin10/VGA/VGA_Intel_CFL_W10_64_V24201006227.zip https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/GamingNB/DriverforWin10/VGA/VGA_Intel_CFL_W10_64_V24201006227.zip

You can also try one of the older versions: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27650/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-65-?product=126790 Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows* [15.65]

Try using this method for the installation: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005629/graphics-drivers.html Manually Install an Intel® Graphics Driver in Windows® 10 and...

Hi Amy,

I tried the following:

1) Manual installation using the customized driver of Asus but my photoshop crashes with this.

2) Old drivers of intel but it says it's not compatible with my system requirements.

The only way to resolve this issue is either I put photoshop in full screen mode (I can't access my toolbars with this view) or attach an external monitor which completely fixes the issue.

Is there a way to use my nvidia video card as the main display on the laptop instead of the intel gpu? I think this will resolve the issue.

Just to confirm, were you able to use the manual method for the old Intel drivers?

From my end, there is no information for this. You can try to check with ASUS since it's one of their computer models, they should be to provide more information is that is possible.
