Brightness change in fullscreen video playback

Hi everybody,

I got the following "problem" and looking for help.

When I enter full-screen mode for video playback in the browser e.g. Youtube or Netflix the brightness of my screen adapts automatically to the value of 50. (It doesn´t happen using the VLC player.)

Meaning, when the brightness is set below a value of 50, the screen gets brighter. If set above, the brightness reduces.

This happens in Firefox and cross-tested it with Edge. The problem persists.

 

My system:
Dell XPS17 9710
Win11 (upgraded from win10 about 2month ago)

GPU:
Nvidia 3060RTX Laptop
Intel UHD [Driver: Intel-UHD-Iris-Xe-Graphics-Driver_6XW71_WIN64_31.0.101.3616_A05]


The fixes I tried:
- I changed all the power plans to maximum (no battery optimization)
- Win / System / Display / HDR video streaming: OFF
- Apps / Video playback / Battery Option: optimize for video quality.

 

Actually, the only way I could resolve the problem was:
To disable "Intel(R) UHD Graphics in Device Manager.

And it also works to change the brightness via "FN-keys".

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities. I am sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with the display brightness.

 

To have a better understanding of your issue, please provide me with the following and try the recommendations:

 

  • When did the issue start?
  • Complete all necessary Windows updates.
  • Try installing the latest Intel driver. There are two types of drivers, generics provided by Intel and Equipment Manufacturer drivers. Since the OEM driver is failing, I recommend you test our generic driver 31.0.101.3790.
  • In case the issue is still present, provide me with a report using the Intel®️ System Support Utility (Intel®️ SSU):  
    • Download the Intel SSU
    • Open the application and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel®️ SSU will take you to the "Summary View." 
    • Click on the menu where it says: "Summary" to change it to "Detailed View." 
    • To save your scan: click "Next"; then "Save."

Hey Jean O.,

I followed the steps you recommended, but the problem still persists.

1. Windows 11 is up to date (latest update installed)
2. I installed the generic driver 31.0.101.3790 [and removed all previous versions]
3. I´m not sure when the problem first occurred (probably around a month ago)
4. I ran the SSU tool and the "Detailed View" is attached.

Based on the report you share, the BIOS installed on your system is 1.13.1. this is not the latest BIOS version available for your system. Install the latest BIOS version, which as per the Dell website, it is the 1.17.0 version. It is important to mention that you should contact Dell support to get the proper installation steps to follow.
